Dolly Parton – Jolene (Todd Terje Remix)

If you’re fed up of winter, there are few things more cheering than news of a remix from everyone’s favourite Norwegian, Todd Terje.  This time he was set the task of remixing Dolly Parton’s seminal ballad ‘Jolene’ as part of T Magazine’s tribute to the queen of country music. A preview emerged in December, and now we have the full version:

Terje is careful to leave Parton’s voice to shine, instead focusing on dialling up the tune’s waltzing bassline and Flamenco-style guitar. He delays her powerful vocal until almost halfway through the track, setting the stage perfectly in what feels more like an homage than a remix.

This rework of Parton joins an illustrious roster of classic edits from TT, including his majestic ‘Stuck In The Middle With You’,  an exceptional effort on Chic’s ‘I Want Your Love‘ and the never-ending groove of KC & the Sunshine Band’s ‘I Get Lifted.

So cheer up, close your eyes, and think of summer months ahead listening to music like this.

Kyla La Grange – Cut Your Teeth (Kygo Remix Radio Edit)

The naysayers amongst you might say that (a) we have already reviewed Kyla La Grange’s ‘Cut Your Teeth’, (b) it is has since been remixed to within an inch of its life, and (c) Kygo‘s remix has actually been around for months (this ‘new’ version is only a radio edit). In response, we would argue that (a) the original was brilliant, (b) so is this, and (c) it’s sunny in London for once so just allow it, alright?

In fairness, the Norwegian knob-twiddler has done such a fantastic job on ‘Cut Your Teeth’ that it warrants a post to itself. Replacing the eerie atmospherics of the original with feel-good tropical vibes, you get the sense Kygo had to restrain himself from dropping some steel drums on it. After three minutes, as if it hasn’t brought enough joy by then, it breaks out into a euphoric bit of disco that makes Aeroplane look like Chris Cunningham. Perfect summer music.

High Heels Breaker – Come Easy feat Sarah Palin (David August Remix)

As is his wont, today David August caught our attention by uploading a new track to his Soundcloud page. A remix of ‘Come Easy’ by Switzerland’s High Heels Breaker, it’s a sparse little number which evokes (to our ears) the great Nicolas Jaar. It’s an atmospheric listen, with nervy synths and twitchy percussion – and it’s an impressive change of pace from the original. It’s also apparently a snippet of the full remix, but David has never been one for concision: it’s 04:34. Finally, it features Sarah Palin on vocals. That is Sarah Palin, the Zurich-based vocalist and songwriter – not the other one (although we’d be intrigued to see that collaboration next).

Fred V & Grafix – Recognise (Panda Remix)

This version of ‘Recognise’ is an all-West Country affair, with former HDP headliners Panda reworking Fred V & Grafix‘s rolling drum & bass original. The Exeter duo are signed to Hospital Records and ‘Recognise’ bears the hallmarks of that illustrious label, with Panda swapping D+B for house but keeping the same echoey vocal samples and central piano line. It makes for a very nice piece of hands-in-the-air dancefloor fodder, only slightly ruined by B. Traits wittering over the front of this version. If you want to hear it without her dulcet tones, it’s out alongside the original on Monday 17th March.

Breach ft. Andreya Triana – Everything You Never Had (We Had It All)

So, finally, it’s happening. Breach‘s ‘Everything You Never Had (We Had It All)’ featuring Andreya Triana on vocals looks like it is finally going to get a release. This has got us extremely excited. Four months ago, it was played by Annie Mac on her show, and two days later T. Williams featured it on his Sunday night Rinse FM broadcast, to a massive response.

But then…nothing. Rips of those shows disappeared off the web, and there was no sign of any release date, although young Ben and Eats Everything continued to play the song out. Maybe Mr. Westbeach was overwhelmed by the success of his massive summer hit ‘Jack’ and fantastic remix of ‘Everything’ by Maya Jane Coles and decided to shelve the release for a bit…? Who knows? Who cares? It’s here now and, despite it being in clip form, it looks certain that this will be Breach’s next single.

The tune itself can only be described as a dance floor banger, with a soaring finale. It mixes a thumping house beat over Andreya’s soulful vocals, with a crescendo that sees him return to the type of intensity that made ‘You Won’t Find Love Again’ such a brilliant tune last summer. We really can’t get enough of it.

As for Ben himself, he continues to go from strength to strength, with an increasingly impressive range of releases. 2013 has been huge for him. Catch Breach and T. Williams amongst a strong line up at XOYO next weekend for Bugged Out!

Bondax – Giving It All (Friend Within Remix)

Liverpudlian Friend Within has gone from strength to strength since he landed on our radar back in March. He was on remix duties for HDP star Harry Wolfman’s co-written deep house ’96 Affair’ EP. Since then he’s managed to push Fatboy Slim’s classic ‘Renegade Master’ back on the scene, simultaneously securing pride of place as the first release on Disclosure’s label Method Records. It was the B-side to ‘The Scene’, the hefty number the brothers Lawrence premiered on their Essential Mix just ten days ago. Both tunes are quality, head here to purchase the whole EP.

And for his next offering? He’s remixed Bondax’s ‘Giving It All’, and in doing so has created a heady, piano-led party tune. He’s going places, this lad.

LeSale – Before The Night (Rocco Raimundo Version)

Rocco Raimundo is another artist winning friends by serving up consistently good tunes and giving them away for your listening pleasure, for free. In doing so, he’s picking up quite the loyal following. With good reason, we should add. The Australian DJ has a knack for adding a clean-cut, verging-on-the-pensive, summer lovin’ edge to his production. He’s done it perfectly in his latest remix above, that of Austrian DJ LeSale’s ‘Before The Night’. He also did it a while back with Two Door Cinema Club’s ‘Sleep Alone’ and before that with the great Lou Reed:

Hemingway – Far Gone

Funky jive from US producer Hemingway to spruce up your Wednesday mornings.

If it’s your sun-kissed cosmic disco you’re after, keep your eyes on this chap. He’s recently remixed Lindstrom’s ‘Vōs-sākō-rv’, which will only add to his hype. Again, nice little laidback summer jam.

Disclosure – F For You (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs Remix)

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs takes on Disclosure’s ‘F For You’ to give us this bass heavy, sparkling wonder of a tune. It’s a hefty number with a lot going on, but it works. Expect some heavy rotations. We’re just curious as to why it’s taken so long for this dream team to come together.
