Human Drizzle presents…Dauwd, James Sison, Paradise Forum & Hot Karl @ Canavan’s

HD_april_flyer_digital_FINALWe’re very excited to announce the details of our next party! We’re taking over Canavan’s in Peckham on Friday 9th May and we want you to be there. Tickets are a steal at just five pounds and with the line-up we’ve put together, you’d be a fool to miss out:

We’re thrilled to announce Dauwd as our headliner for the night.

Having had releases on Pictures Music, Ghostly International and most recently Kompakt, the SE15 resident has carved out a formidable reputation for his intricate productions. Since his debut in 2011, he’s continued to experiment with bass, techno and house to critical acclaim. He premiered the soaring title track of his new ‘Kindlinn’ EP on Mixmag just two days ago:

He’s toured both sides of the pond, been twice booked for Boiler Room and is without doubt one of the most exciting UK producers out there right now – we cannot wait for him to headline proceedings. Check out his own Dub version of ‘Silverse’, a highlight from last year’s ‘Heat Division’ EP:

Support is threefold.

First we have James Sison. He’s co-founder of the hotly-tipped London and Leeds-based label Bade Records and is resident at Tessellate. The latter have played host to HD faves Urulu, Eliphino and Citizen in their debut year, and Bade Records are running a stage at the Innervisions-affiliated One Day festival on 21st June. We’re really excited to see what he throws down. Check out Bade Records’ first two free downloads. One from James himself and one from Berlin-based Ben Bohmer:

We’ve also asked Paradise Forum to come play some records, having been wowed by their ace taste in disco, soul and house at the launch of their label and club night, Paradise Loft. We highly recommend checking out this newly-formed collective:

Warming things up will be HD resident Hot Karl.

More on all the aforementioned soon. But for now, block out Friday 9th May and go bag those early birds!

Dauwd – Heat Division (Tim Goldsworthy Remix)

Peckham-based label Pictures Music have teamed up again with US-based ‘multi-platform cultural curators’ Ghostly International to release a remix package of Dauwd’s ‘Heat Division’ EP.

They’ve commandeered both heavyweights Nick Hoppner and Tim Goldsworthy to lend a hand, with the DFA Records co-founder’s remix available to stream now. Using his own vocals, he’s stretched out a slick almost ten minutes version of the tune.

As a further bonus, Dauwd himself rounds off the line-up on the EP with a ‘Dub Version’ of ‘Silverse’. Similarly smooth, this.

Short Stories – Let It Go / On The Way

We bring you good omens for 2013 with the announcement that Koreless and Sampha are to release their two collaborative efforts thus far, ‘Let It Go’ and ‘On The Way’ under the ‘Short Stories’ moniker. Hooray! We’ve been enjoying both on the regs as they’ve knocked around the web these past few years and thought something was in the pipeline after their recent (very) short set during the Young Turks-curated Boiler Room:
Find a slightly cleaner version of ‘Let It Go’ from back in the day here. And here’s the best rip we can find of ‘On The Way’:
According to the accompanying info, “the pair forged a friendship playing at Young Turks parties in 2010, and utilised the same Dalston studio which would later become the writing room for The xx’s second album, spending two days with a vast array of synths, drum machines and other instruments, exploring a new sonic palette and learning about each other’s process for creating music.” Coooooool. Catch the fruits of their labour on 28th January via Young Turks.

Rudi Zygadlo – Banana Tree & Dauwd – Fader mix

This week we got a welcome heads up from our pals at Pictures Music about new music from two exciting artists. Firstly, the genre-defying Rudi Zygadlo, whose previous work includes ‘Russian Dolls’ and ‘Melpomeme’. ‘Banana Tree’ is more like the former with it squelchy synths, slow tempo, big drums and driving vocals from rising London talent, YADi.

Meanwhile another member of the Pictures Music family, Dauwd, has released a mix for Fader. He’s an interesting chap, Dauwd, and he talks in the accompanying interview about his origins (Wales, via America and Iraq), home (Peckham), upcoming release (stressful) and reputation as a chef (unwarranted). The mix itself is a diverse affair, ranging from contemplative soundscapes to soulful house. It deliberately has no tracklist, because Dauwd doesn’t want you to have pre-conceptions before listening. You’re a judgemental lot, it’s for your own good, and that’s the end of it. Download available below too. Merry Christmas, one and all.

Bobby Champs – Drag Queen EP

Pictures Music continues to set the standard for releasing electronic music that’s not only high quality but also stands out from the crowd. Having already championed artists like Lapalux and Koreless, this week sees the release of Brighton-based Bobby Champs’s second EP, ‘Drag Queen’.

All four tracks follow a fairly hefty – yet precise – stride, and they form a ready-made soundtrack to the kind of large-scale, ‘TBA Warehouse Location’ parties to which Londoners have become accustomed in recent years. In no way is that a bad thing: check out the swagger on ‘Charlie’, a track that’s available for free download on his Soundcloud.

If that doesn’t grab your attention, the title track’s accompanying video certainly will. Bryan Stewart has created a perfectly unique and unbelievably cool vid.
