Dan Beaumont – Spirit Talkin’

Dan Beaumont is kind of a big deal. He runs Dance Tunnel, owns pizza empire Voodoo Rays, holds down an NTS radio show, the guy gets around. In between all of that though, he has a talent for throwing out the odd belter of production.

Spirit Talkin’ sees Beaumont push an uncompromising bassline, stabbing claps and a spine-tingling vocal together to provide some real hands-in-the-air moments. It’s a lean, no-frills house cut, perfect for energising a crowd in the small hours.

It’s out next week on Spencer Parker’s Work Them Records and will no doubt be played by the man himself at Farr Festival the following weekend.

Found Festival 2015

Saturday 13th June – a date for the diary. Found Festival returns in the new environs of Brockwell Park in Brixton. Same top line-up, different grassy patch to dance on.

Your boy George Fitzgerald heads up a stage this year and, propped up by big boys like Barnt and KiNK, we’re sure he’ll bring the house down. His recently released album would appear to confirm that:

To be honest, the KiNK live show is worth the entrance fee alone (this is almost too good to watch/listen to at work):

The pick of the other stages is NTS’s effort, a showcase of their deep bench of DJs. Bossman Mr Wonderful and globetrotter Bradley Zero will undoubtedly on the money.

Basically, see you there. The perfect pick-me-up as memories of this begin to fade…

Fold – Mr W00D

Always worth a listen when top notch selectors dabble in the product:

Rob Glassett aka FOLD has been spinning house in all its variations for NTS and others for years now, via a Panorama Bar series, so we had an inkling his new ‘Mr W00d’ EP on ManMakeMusic would be good. On the strength of this title track, we’re not wrong. Channelling the disco strains of ‘I Want To Thank You’ by Alicia Myers, it’s a slow burning house groove that draws you in nicely.

If you needed another reason to check out the EP, it also contains a track called ‘Keif Chugwin’. Amazing.

Jamie xx – All Under One Roof Raving

“I wanted to make something I could play out when I got home that reminded people of how good home is.”

So says Jamie xx of his surprise new single, ‘All Under One Roof Raving’. It heavily samples British artist Mark Leckey’s 1999 documentary ‘Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore’, and you can hear the homesickness as he wrote it on tour with The xx: “Keepin’ it UK” as another sample proclaims. Add in his clipped percussion and steel pans and you’ve a UK classic.

Jamie also did a Boiler Room with NTS bossman Jon Rust yesterday so keep tuned to our twitter for notice when that hits the web.
