Human Drizzle: The Playlist, December 2015

Regular readers may be aware that our playlist game has been far from strong of late, and for that we sincerely apologise. However we can assure you it’s worth the wait. There’s a lot of good music on this one.

In the past month Hubie Davison’s disco-sampling ‘Sanctified’ finally got a release on Midland’s ReGraded label, and Future Classic have been busy nurturing new psych-pop band World Champion. Kidnap Kid’s channelling a deeper, nigh-Innervisions style to his production and Auntie Flo released one of our albums of the year.

Plus new tracks from HD faves Lorca, Doc Daneeka, Dusky and a whole lot more. It’s a real goodie. And you can take this overdue bundle of joy as purely an appetiser for our Best of 2015 playlist, due to land in a couple of weeks.

All that’s left is for you to press play and for us to wish you a whole load of peace and goodwill this Christmas. Have a good one.

Bicep – Back 2 U (Tranz Dub)

Following on from the atmospheric ‘Just’ a couple of weeks back, we (in collaboration with the Mixmag soundcloud account) bring to you the second cut from Bicep’s upcoming EP.

‘Back 2 U’ (Tranz Dub) flows through the same vein as ‘Just’ in grabbing your attention beyond the ups and downs of your average house track. It has soaring vocals dipping in and out but the focus is on the percussive bass, carrying you through the eight minutes.

The boys are back on Aus Music for this one with a vinyl release on 24th May.

Lxury – Pick You Up

Get a load of this to brighten up your Thursday.

‘Pick You Up’ is the first single from Lxury‘s upcoming EP, Into the Everywhere, on Greco-Roman. After cutting his teeth at Disclosure’s Method Records, Lxury appears to have found his musical home at GR and it’s easy to see why. His buoyant, soulful house fits nicely next to the likes of Joe Goddard and Roosevelt. If this is your kind of thing, you’ll LOVE his Mixmag mix from a couple of months back

Into the Everywhere is set for release on February 16th next year.

Baba Stiltz – Aches

Precocious talent alert.

Having put out some singles on Axel Boman’s Studio Barnhaus label, released a couple of folk-pop albums and produced for Sad Boy phenomenon Yung Lean, 21 year old Swedish producer Baba Stiltz decided it was time to put out an LP under his own name. Surprise surprise, it’s great. Mixmag premiered ‘Aches’, and Studio Barnhaus gave us ‘Reality Sparks’, both deep, ambient cuts with a spacey feel.

Basically, he’s bossing it and we should go along for the ride.

Basement Jaxx – Never Say Never (Wayward Remix)

Wayward just keep ’em coming.

Whether it’s the blissed-out balearic vibes on ‘Belize‘ or the soulful pop of ‘Love Jones‘ and ‘Marvin‘, they’ve consistently delivered and have fast become one of our fave production duos out there.

Now they’ve boldly taken on Basement Jaxx’s new single ‘Never Say Never’, injecting a whack of bounce to the original. They’ve focused on the catchy vocal and given it even more of a party feel – it’s absolutely the Monday morning pick-me-up we all need and only heightens our anticipation of their next single, due out very soon we hear.

Keep your ears peeled for that one, and if you’re at Global Gathering, Beacons or Bestival, do the right thing and find out where they’re playing.

Sam Smith – Stay With Me (Wilfred Giroux Remix)

All sorts of hype surrounding this chap, Wilfred Giroux. Alongside Shy FX and Darkchild, he now makes an appearance on the team sheet for remix duties on Sam Smith’s upcoming ‘Stay With Me’ EP:

WG’s edit adds a killer 90s edge to the pop sensation’s next release – it’s sure to get multiple plays, especially after the success of his debut single, ‘Stronger’, which was released on March 24th on Polkadot Recordings.

Being the debut release for the label too, the future’s looking bright for the lot of them and we’re big fans of what they’re doing. Not only has the Black country label head Sam Bevan been producing himself for a while as Polkadot, but each release on the label will see a different artist designing a limited edition T-shirt to accompany the tune. And we must say, the design for ‘Stronger’ is looking very tasty indeed.

The clan also did a job on recruiting remixers for said release. You should all search out HD fave Clancy’s effort, alongside Zed Bias, Squarehead and Whitesquare. But it was new kid on the block Wilhelm’s efforts that caught our attention via Mixmag’s trustworthy exclusive feature just yesterday. All we’re really told is the fact that Wilhelm’s real name is Josh Scarbrow, he’s 18 years old and he’s from the countryside. One to watch, probs:

Citizen & Ashworth – Situation

Another excellent exclusive, courtesy of Mixmag.

Released on Waze & Odyssey’s imprint W & O Street Tracks, ‘Situation’ is the new one from a hot collaboration of Citizen and Ashworth. The flirtatious synth work and hefty bass line blend nicely to make this an essential party tune. Out on 9th December, you can pre-order it here.

Ashworth’s been a busy boy of late. He recently worked with rising talent Kiwi to produce the ‘Dawn’ EP, released on Sneaky Music. Check out the chugging wonder that is ‘CUx3’ below. If you like what you hear, head over to Juno to purchase the whole EP.
