Jack Priest – SlothBoogie Guestmix #43

For those residing in the British Isles (hiya), you may have noticed a yellow, shiny thing in the sky this past week or two. Do not be alarmed – instead, queue up this mix from emerging Bristolian, Jack Priest. The 43rd in SlothBoogie’s Guestmix series, this set comes off the back of some funner-than-fun edits on Wolf + Lamb’s imprint (‘Don’t You Want Me’, anyone?) and it’s the perfect soundtrack to that overly-optimistic day party you’ve organised this weekend. Everyone will get really into it just as you’re transferring the sodden jerk chicken from the barbecue to the oven. 👌

Anyway, Mr Priest says his taste ‘leans towards slower burning, genre sidestepping electronic music’ and his sets contain ‘abstruse pop records, melodic voyages and stories for the heartsore.’ But this time he has largely eschewed the introspection in favour of wall-to-wall summer vibes. And who can blame the man?

Tief presents Beats In Space 15th Anniversary

BIS 2Attention Londoners! What you doing Friday 26th September? Nothing? Get yourselves down Elephant & Castle way, there’s a night you do not want to be missing.

As part of a global tour covering the US, Japan, Mexico and Europe, Tim Sweeney and his merry men are celebrating 15 years of his Beats In Space radio show. Luckily for us, Tief are promoting the London leg at Corsica Studios and with the line-up they’ve put together, it’s going to be CLASS.

If you’re unfamiliar with BIS, way back in ‘99, then New York University freshman Tim Sweeney hit the airwaves of WNYU 89.1 with the radio show, Beats In Space. In the 15 years he’s been running it, he’s not once missed the Tuesday night slot, playing host to a whole range of guest mixes from the likes of Four Tet, Midland, Gui Boratto, KiNK and John Talabot.

Besides securing a legendary home for broadcasting eclectic, cutting edge music on a weekly basis, Sweeney set up a label for BIS in 2009, and having seen releases from Lauer, Paradis and Jee Day amongst others, he’s further developed the brand’s reputation for discovering top quality, new music.

We’ve seen the DFA Records-affiliated DJ play before many times and he never disappoints. Joining him next Friday is a stellar line-up consisting of Axel Boman, Tornado Wallace, Hunee going b2b with Mr Ties, and Tief stalwart Hessletime.

Need we say more?

Get your tickets here, and delve into the below for a taster of the night.

Yuksek Boiler Room & Brackles on Rinse

Couple of mixes from a couple of favourites here:

After their tempting offer for our Parisian readers last week, Boiler Room have now put up some of the mixes from the night, and we think Yuksek’s is the pick of the bunch.

Continuing our affair with the Rinse podcasts, we also bring you the latest from Brackles, who doesn’t disappoint with a garage-flavoured romp through the more urban end of dance music, if you’ll forgive the 1xtra vocab.

Both of ‘em are worth the extended listen.

A quick thank you to all those who came down to Canavan’s on Friday night for the sixth instalment of Human Drizzle Presents. We had a blast and will be back in no time, so keep your eyes peeled for summer shenanigans. In the meantime, here are a couple of things to tide you over. Firstly, HD resident Hot Karl’s sumptuous mix – and secondly, a few snaps from Friday. The rest will be on our Facebook page in no time at all.

Slothboogie @ The Cat & Mutton, 03.04.14

Londoners really are spoilt this bank holiday weekend. With Real Nice attracting Cassius across La Manche to play on Sunday night at Pulse, the extended weekend leaves plenty of room for an afternoon session on Saturday. If you’re in the market for one, the kind people at Slothboogie are putting on just such an affair at newly-refurbished London Fields boozer, the Cat & Mutton. We suggest you check your ex isn’t going here, then make the necessary arrangements. To get you in the mood, here’s their blissed-out summer mix, somewhat optimistically posted a few weeks ago.

Jones – Many Moons (Panda Remix)

You can’t knock their output, them Panda lads.

Whilst juggling first releases from their newly created label, Bambusa Records, and also lending a helping hand on the excellent new EP from Lancelot on Anjunadeep, they’ve squeezed in the time to tweak ‘Many Moons’ by London’s Jones into a rather charming remix.

If you foolishly missed out on their Human Drizzle Presents appearance, then fear not – they’re popping up at parties all over the place, including Bulgaria’s most popular music festival come ski resort, Horizon Festival – line-up looks excellent.

And here’s their February mix for your listening pleasure. Head over to their Soundcloud to grab the free download…

Ben Gomori @ Human Drizzle Presents, 03/08/13

Ben Gomori‘s set was a highlight of our party at The Yard last month and your man BG, being the excellent man that he is, had the presence of mind to record the whole thing. All of which means we can now bring the set to you in full – available to download for free, below. Look out for the Stardust/Croll moment, which will live long in the memory. Exhilarating stuff.

And if you missed the last one and want to experience this kind of magic for yourself, join us IRL for our next party at Peckham Palais on Friday 1st November. Full details coming soon…

Mixtapes – Zimmer, Real Nice & Charles Murdoch

Any of you lot looking to plug in for a longer listen, here’s our pick of the best mixes out there right now.

Parisian producer Zimmer has recently unleashed his August mixtape, ‘La Crique’. It’s his ‘take on the perfect pool party mixtape’ and it’s just shy of an hour’s worth of sunny delights. You can get this one for free on his Soundcloud right here.

After impressing them with their DJ slot at Ibiza’s Space last month, The Fat! Club recruited London-based duo Real Nice to take the 68th slot in their mix series. Some party tunes in here. Again, this one’s yours for free here.

Lastly, i-D online have commandeered one-to-watch from Down Under Charles Murdoch to fill an hour. The Future Classic recruit delivers ‘some smooth sounds to soothe the soul’ – this one’s stripped back and downbeat, and well worth the listen.

Vanilla Ace Remixes

Tip of the cap to Vanilla Ace for playing Human Drizzle Presents on Saturday, the lad knows how to throw down a set. He also knows his way around a remix as the two following cuts show. The latter a Jon Celius track, the first a combo from Recommended by Friends and Vince John, they both reek of party vibes and are exemplary of his second-to-none work rate at the moment.

For the longer listen, he’s recently done this mix for Discobelle. Worth checking out if you’ve got the time:
