Studio Barnhus @ Corsica Studios 03.09.16

If you’re still on the hunt for a plan Saturday, put down the listings guide. We got you.

Trouble Vision have done it again with a Studio Barnhus label showcase down at Corsica Studios. Axel Boman, Kornél Kovács and Pedrodollar, founding trio of the Swedish label, will all be gracing the decks on Saturday night, bringing their house-but-so-much-more-than-house sound to South London.

Kornel’s gone and done a taster mix to whet the appetite:

As the accompanying RA profile described it, ‘House music for the end of summer’.

Fitzzgerald | Human Drizzle: The Mixtape, March 2016

Our good friends over at Wotnot Music have some exciting plans ahead. With releases on the horizon from K15 and Alphabeats Heaven, and appearances from Mono/Poly and Body San in sight too, 2016 looks set to be a fruitful year to say the least.

Continuing to champion the very best in fresh new talent, their first release this year comes from the Belarusian producer and DJ Fitzzgerald. The London-based label has done us a solid and let us air his excellent, fun-filled mix to coincide with said release. It’s just shy of 50 minutes of vintage disco, funk and boogie courtesy of S.F.B and Patchworks, alongside some more jazzy sounds from Funktion and Jack J amongst others. It’s bound to get your Fridays movin’:

You can check out ‘Genius Of Love’ below, the first cut from the ‘Far From Here’ EP which hit the shelves today. The shuffler of a tune builds around bouncing synth chords and live drums, and it sits nicely with the eclectic sounds of the two other tracks on the EP – there’s Bollywood disco on the ‘Indian Breakfast’, and some funk-infused blues on the Forrest Gump-sampling ‘You Wanna Chocolate’. Both very nice.

Head over to the Wotnot site to grab a copy.

Cleveland – Atlas

This earworm’s been floating around the net for a few weeks now. Penned by the Luxembourg-based (not Ohio) producer Cleveland, ‘Atlas’ is a slow-building, tense affair and is sounding right at home amongst label-mates Round and Marvin & Guy on John Talabot’s Hivern Discs.

If you’ve got more time on your hands, the mix he recently did for Data Transmission is a really good one to knuckle down to. The tune that kicks in around the 40 minute mark is something to behold, details unknown but due for release later this year, apparently. Free Download on this one.

Ben Gomori – Human Drizzle: The Mixtape, September 2015

What a Friday treat we have for you here.

In advance of his set at next week’s Human Drizzle Presents – alongside NVOY and a VVVVIP special guest announced on Monday – your boy Ben Gomori has given us an exclusive recording of his Temple Islands set from Bestival this year. Nothing but big things.

As you’d expect, it’s packed with disco and house hits, the Erol Alkan mix of Connan Mockasin into Caribou’s Our Love was a highlight for us. Big finish too.

Track info is here and you’ll see an exclusive future Monologues Records (Ben G’s label) release peeking through the list – this comes complete with a video of its first ever road test.

We CANNOT wait to see Benz in action next week. You’d be a fool to miss it. Get an advance ticket now for the eminently reasonable £8.

Human Drizzle: The Playlist, July 2015

That time again.

Whack this on when you’re lounging about the pool sipping a cocktail in the sweltering heat this weekend. If you have to make do with frisbee in the park, a few Red Stripes and a portable speaker, then just as well.

Summer vibes-a-plenty on this one with the return of Bag Raiders, Aeroplane and that jazzy Polish producer, Klaves. Frankey & Sandrino, Fort Romeau and Dusky are in there too if you’re after something a little deeper.

Enjoy, and as ever, hit us up over on Twitter if you think we’ve missed the unmissable.

Human Drizzle Presents @ The Alibi, 5th June

A BIG thank you to all of you that made it down to The Alibi last Friday night. We had a super time, and hope you did too. Here are a few of the pics taken on the night, please keep an eye on our Facebook page for the rest of the bunch.

Shouts go out to all of the DJs behind the ones and twos, including the bouncy, bootleg-filled set from Swin, and of course Hot Karl taking it a little deeper before Paradise Forum’s staple retro sound. After midnight we were treated to two ace sets from SlothBoogie and Ben Gomori, the latter of which was recorded by the good man himself and is a blinder! Thanks, Ben.

Human Drizzle Presents will be returning at the end of the summer, so get our your diaries and block out Friday 25th September. We’re taking over Basing House and are very excited about who we got coming down. Hopefully see you there…

TCTS – For Life

A little late to the party on this one but we couldn’t let TCTS’ latest offering slip through the net. The London DJ and producer formally known as Sam O’Neill weaves together four minutes of what Stereogum rightfully describes as ‘fidgety, irresistible house’. As with previous work, his staple sound of delightful piano stabs and anthemic vocals are very much key players in this one, and the tune further supports his rep for creating a tasty blend of future pop.

‘For Life’ joins ‘Thinking About You’ on the ‘Body’ EP, out now on Chase & Status’ MTA Records.

For that longer listen, he’s been roped in by Kiss FM for the newest addition to their Fresh mix series. The tracklisting is VERY HD, and it makes for a fun way to kill an hour.

Late Night Tales – Jon Hopkins

Hands up if this week’s all getting a bit much? Need a little time out? Look no further than Jon Hopkins’ forthcoming Late Night Tales‘ compilation, it’s looking to be pretty special and could be the perfect respite for your weary selves.

If you’re unaware of LNT’s work, they invite artists to delve into their record collection to create the ultimate late night selections. With previous guests such as Four Tet, The Cinematic Orchestra and Belle & Sebastien, the collective is the absolute don for atmospheric, chill-out, whatever genre you want to call it. It’s relaxing, and for that little moment in time you can escape your busy lives, let go and forget about all your worries.

So when we heard Jon Hopkins had been recruited for the next edition we were pretty excited. Judging by the promo, he’s put a lot of time and effort into it, he ‘chose tracks not just because they have been important to me but because of how they sit together, putting as much thought into the transitions and overall narrative as I did into the track choices’.

As with tradition on all these compilations, Hopkins has done an exclusive cover version, which will feature poet Rick Holland’s spoken word on the full release. The instrumental is of Yeasayer’s ‘I Remember’ and it’s quite something. Fragile doesn’t even cover it. The rest of the line-up includes choice selections from Nils Frahm, Sigur Ros’ Jonsi and this hypnotic number from Darkstar:

It’s not all ambience, though. Hopkins has included more beat-heavy works from Holy Other and Gold Panda, and he delves into the indie with a School Of Seven Bells track. Also on there is the totally irresistible ‘Lady Divine’ by Alela Diane:

All-in-all we know this is a compilation that you need in your life. It’s currently on pre-order with both digital and vinyl releases out at the end of Feb, beginning of March. If you needed more persuading, he’s even squeezed in Four Tet’s ‘Gillie Amma, I Love You’. It’s moving:

xxxy – toys mix #15

Well isn’t this a conveniently timed, wonderfully measured surprise? xxxy, of Human-Drizzle-Presents-at-Plan-B-December-5th fame, has been invited, and duly obliged, to spin an hour’s worth of tracks for TOYS (Take Off Your Shoes).

This is so good too. He has, perhaps, dumbed things down a notch from the usual high-energy releases and mixes that we’ve come to expect from him, but this is no criticism. The mix features so many great tunes, but there are three that we want to highlight. First, ‘Marshmallows’ by Mr Beatnick.

And then two of the tracks of the year; C.P.I’s ‘Prosecco’ (Barnt remix), and ‘Clinton Space Funk’ by Mount Liberation Unlimited.

Worth an hour of your time today. Worth a few hours of your time next Friday.

Lxury – Pick You Up

Get a load of this to brighten up your Thursday.

‘Pick You Up’ is the first single from Lxury‘s upcoming EP, Into the Everywhere, on Greco-Roman. After cutting his teeth at Disclosure’s Method Records, Lxury appears to have found his musical home at GR and it’s easy to see why. His buoyant, soulful house fits nicely next to the likes of Joe Goddard and Roosevelt. If this is your kind of thing, you’ll LOVE his Mixmag mix from a couple of months back

Into the Everywhere is set for release on February 16th next year.
