Fold – Mr W00D

Always worth a listen when top notch selectors dabble in the product:

Rob Glassett aka FOLD has been spinning house in all its variations for NTS and others for years now, via a Panorama Bar series, so we had an inkling his new ‘Mr W00d’ EP on ManMakeMusic would be good. On the strength of this title track, we’re not wrong. Channelling the disco strains of ‘I Want To Thank You’ by Alicia Myers, it’s a slow burning house groove that draws you in nicely.

If you needed another reason to check out the EP, it also contains a track called ‘Keif Chugwin’. Amazing.

Erosion Flow – Aiir

Our man in Denmark, Erosion Flow (aka Henrik Koefod), has kicked off his 2015 with a freebie via XLR8R. It’s worth a listen:

With a shuffling house beat and some synth melodies, ‘Aiir’ is a groovy, mid-set tune that’ll keep the crowds feeling fremragende!

ManMakeMusic did the honours and put out his debut EP last year, we reckon they keep the faith and give the lad another spin of the wheel.

Dim The Lights – 21st June

Get the diary out, clear Saturday 21st June and dim those lights…

In anticipation of an extra-spesh new club night, atmospherically named ‘Dim The Lights’, co-founder Hayden has whipped together a warm-up mix and it’s a delight:

If nothing else (and there’s plenty else), it reminded us what a massive, massive tune Carly Simon’s ‘Why (Does Your Love Hurt So Much)’ is. Nile Roger’s production work on it makes Chic’s Daft Punk-fuelled resurgence NOT SURPRISING AT ALL.

Anyway, join Hayden, Si and headliners Man Make Music DJs for an evening of fine house music. Details here. Oh, and it’s free. Which is great.

Laszlo Dancehall – Whip What

Laszlo Dancehall – Brighton’s Leon Vynehall and A1 Bassline – are back with their long awaited follow up to the stomping ‘Gave Up‘.

‘Whip What’ is a similarly infectious and thumping number. It’s the ninth release on the ManMakeMusic label, and is available for purchase on vinyl today. The digital copy is out on November 11th.

George FitzGerald – Unilateral

UK beat maker George FitzGerald likes to keep his fingers in a whole load of pies. He’s had releases on prestigious label Hotflush and has made a host of excellent remixes (most recently turning Kimbra’s fragile ‘The Build Up’ into a formidable deep house stomper). What’s more, he’s one of the chaps behind ManMakeMusic, the collective who have run some great nights and who release music on their imprint, with FitzGerald as label honcho.

Right now, he’s about to release an EP entitled ‘Child’, which sees him returning to Aus Music, another label he’s previously worked with. The title track is going to be the main single but our favourite is the closing tune, ‘Unilateral’ – a late-night groove with busy hi-hats, eerie synths and (you guessed it) chopped vocals.

If you check his schedule, things only get more complicated this summer. Expect festival appearances, side projects and an album before the end of the year – and with productions this good, we can’t wait.
