Justin Jay – Static EP

We were blown away by Justin Jay’s ‘Everything’ EP released last month on Southern Fried Records, so it’s no surprise we’re thrilled to hear he’s already got another EP up his sleeve. It’s entitled ‘Static’ and is out on Dirtybird, April 15th. For those unaware, Dirtybird’s a San Franciscan label that’s renowned for releasing party music. Think Justin Martin, Eats Everything, and of course label owner Claude VonStroke. Now they’ve got the pleasure of welcoming this chap on board.

Deviating from the silky sounds of ‘Everything’, Mr Jay steps it up a notch on the two tracks we’ve heard. You can tell the 19 year old means business. Give ‘Static’ a spin for just over a minute and you’ll see what we mean: it’s like a blow to the jugular. ‘Waves’, a little more controlled yet similarly impressive, is just over seven minutes of downbeat and deep, heady house music.

This guy’s fast becoming one of our favourite young stars.

Justin Jay – Everything EP

Out now on Southern Fried Records, here’s the tasty new EP from 19 year old Justin Jay from LA. We’re huge fans of both tracks – for the most part they take a laid back approach through deep house with the occasional, well-measured piano build. Lovely stuff from the youngster.

The EP comes armed with two remixes each from the brilliantly-named Jack Fell Down and Frogs In Socks. Our choice cuts are the garage version and the dub version respectively. Have a listen:
