Top 5 Tracks of the Week

 1. Seb Wildblood – :~^: This gem of a track was floating around last year and we’re pleased to see it finally get a release on Wildblood’s forthcoming album of the same name (the one with the emoticon?), out on Omena Records on 17th April.

2. Dark Sky – Filter EP: Have patience with the new Dark Sky EP and you will be rewarded. More impressive sounds from the Londoners, out this week on Monkeytown Records. Catch them live at the Queens Yard Summer Party on Sunday 30th April alongside Andrew Ashong and Auntie Flo, stalls from Phonica and Lobster Records and a number of pop-up food and drink stalls. One for the diary.

3. Maurice Jnr. & Seb Miguel – The Science of Life: Regular readers will know we’re big fans of the Sugarhouse Records crew, particularly after Paradise Forum’s consistent delivery of excellence at some of our parties. ‘T.S.O.L’ is the second track from the third EP on the label and it’s another slice of soulful, deep house fun. Keep Bouncin’…

4. Geotic – Billionth Remnant: Beautiful track from the forthcoming ‘Abysma’ LP from Baths member Will Weisenfeld. It’s serene, pensive, perfect for some down time. The whole album has been described as ‘subtle as a Sunday morning ritual, a tender epiphany in a bombastic fireworks show.’ Ghostly doing the business, pre-order it here.

5. Ponty Mython – Why Can’t We Both Be Right EP: The excellently-named producer is dropping a four track EP on FINA Records, this one’s the laid-back and jazzy number and it’s out on vinyl on 24th March, 12th May digitally.

DJ Boring in the mix for i-DJ last week to get your weekends moving (catch him alongside Project Pablo and DJ Seinfeld at Phonox on 12th May…):

Fort Romeau – All I Want

More infectious sounds from Fort Romeau, on this, the third cut from his ‘Insides’ LP due out on Ghostly International next week. As ever with the South London-based producer and Human Drizzle Presents alumnus-extraordinaire, the patient will be rewarded with ‘All I Want’, the tune really coming into its own as the piano keys shine through in the second half. This joins ‘Insides’ and the fruity New Jackson collab ‘Not A Word’ on the album, which is dropping a week today on 31st March.

Can’t wait that long? The good people over at Hype Machine are streaming the whole damn thing to whet the appetite, check it out here.

Fort Romeau & New Jackson – Not A Word

Here’s the second taster from Fort Romeau’s debut LP, ‘Insides’, and it comes in the form of a collaboration with Irish producer New Jackson.

Like many of FR’s thought-provoking house tunes, ‘Not A Word’ really comes into its own after the 3 and a half minute mark when the producers’ synth trickery takes centre stage and pushes the robotic vocal and pounding beat aside. It’s as dreamy a piece of work as you’d expect from these two and we love it. Not long now until Ghostly International does the good thing and releases FR’s debut LP, ‘Insides‘. 31st March, to be exact.

While we’re on it, may as well revisit New Jackson’s release from last year, ‘Having A Coke With You’. We placed it in our Best of 2014 playlist it’s so good, check out the rest of that here.

Human Drizzle presents…Dauwd, James Sison, Paradise Forum & Hot Karl @ Canavan’s

HD_april_flyer_digital_FINALWe’re very excited to announce the details of our next party! We’re taking over Canavan’s in Peckham on Friday 9th May and we want you to be there. Tickets are a steal at just five pounds and with the line-up we’ve put together, you’d be a fool to miss out:

We’re thrilled to announce Dauwd as our headliner for the night.

Having had releases on Pictures Music, Ghostly International and most recently Kompakt, the SE15 resident has carved out a formidable reputation for his intricate productions. Since his debut in 2011, he’s continued to experiment with bass, techno and house to critical acclaim. He premiered the soaring title track of his new ‘Kindlinn’ EP on Mixmag just two days ago:

He’s toured both sides of the pond, been twice booked for Boiler Room and is without doubt one of the most exciting UK producers out there right now – we cannot wait for him to headline proceedings. Check out his own Dub version of ‘Silverse’, a highlight from last year’s ‘Heat Division’ EP:

Support is threefold.

First we have James Sison. He’s co-founder of the hotly-tipped London and Leeds-based label Bade Records and is resident at Tessellate. The latter have played host to HD faves Urulu, Eliphino and Citizen in their debut year, and Bade Records are running a stage at the Innervisions-affiliated One Day festival on 21st June. We’re really excited to see what he throws down. Check out Bade Records’ first two free downloads. One from James himself and one from Berlin-based Ben Bohmer:

We’ve also asked Paradise Forum to come play some records, having been wowed by their ace taste in disco, soul and house at the launch of their label and club night, Paradise Loft. We highly recommend checking out this newly-formed collective:

Warming things up will be HD resident Hot Karl.

More on all the aforementioned soon. But for now, block out Friday 9th May and go bag those early birds!

Tycho – Spectre

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Joining ‘Montana’ and ‘Awake’, ‘Spectre’ is the third taster of Tycho’s highly-anticipated album, ‘Awake’. We’re treated to more of the same atmospheric soundscapes as before, and in no way is that a bad thing. It’s the kind of uplifting music everyone needs to hear on a Monday.

We’ve got a feeling it’ll be all the more impressive live. Which is lucky for London-based people like us, as he’s playing Oval Space on March 26th. Tickets here.

Tycho – Montana

Finally some guitars.

If you’ve not heard of Tycho, it’s someone we highly recommend acquainting yourself with. San Francisco-based, this ambient producer has picked up a loyal fan base after nearly a decade of making tunes.

Like a cheap ‘n cheerful Mogwai, easy comparisons can be drawn to HD faves Explosions In The Sky. It’s real montage stuff. Fist in the air, emotionally-charged music that you can, quite simply, get lost in. And we love it.

The good news is he’s popping over to blighty for a one-stop show at East London’s fantastic Oval Space on March 26th. Do yourself a favour and make sure you’re there. ‘Montana’ and previously released ‘Awake’ are due to feature on his next album, due out March 18th on Ghostly International.

Dauwd – Heat Division (Tim Goldsworthy Remix)

Peckham-based label Pictures Music have teamed up again with US-based ‘multi-platform cultural curators’ Ghostly International to release a remix package of Dauwd’s ‘Heat Division’ EP.

They’ve commandeered both heavyweights Nick Hoppner and Tim Goldsworthy to lend a hand, with the DFA Records co-founder’s remix available to stream now. Using his own vocals, he’s stretched out a slick almost ten minutes version of the tune.

As a further bonus, Dauwd himself rounds off the line-up on the EP with a ‘Dub Version’ of ‘Silverse’. Similarly smooth, this.
