Four Tet – Parallel Jalebi (Hudson Mohawke RMX)

As part of the ongoing appetite-whetting for his forthcoming album, Hudson Mohawke has been spraying a few new tunes around:

He dropped four new fellas on Benji B’s Radio 1 show (listen here), including the above remix of Four Tet’s juddering ‘Parallel Jalebi’. As a festive treat this is now available a gratis from LuckyMe’s excellent Advent Calendar. It’s better than the cheap chocolate you got out of yours this morning.

Gabrielle Aplin – Please Don’t Say You Love Me (Cyril Hahn Remix)

Couple of exciting bits of Cyril Hahn news for ya; a new tune and the chance to hear it live!

His latest rework, this time of festive troubadour Gabrielle Aplin (her version of ‘The Power of Love’ soundtracked John Lewis’s latest brain-washer), continues in the same vein as previous successes. Cyril brings his urgent, melodic feel to the tune, infusing it with “a dreamy sense of nostalgia”, as i-D Magazine put it.

For something a little meatier, check out his recent mini-mix for Rob da Bank on Radio One too:

And, as tipped on these pages last month, Cyril has now announced dates for his European tour in February/March of this year. These will sell out before you can Say My Name so get yourselves signed up for the announcement ASAP. Do that HERE.

The xx – Chained (ONEMAN 119 House Edit)

Rinse DJ and serious selector DJ Oneman occasionally blesses us with one of his own productions and he’s uncorked a real one here, twisting The xx’s downbeat bedroom jam ‘Chained’ into a dancefloor-ready jackin’ house tune. That’s all you need to know really.

For a taste of Oneman’s selecting skills, check out a recent set he did for Young Turks down under:

Also, whilst we’re on The xx, the speedy amongst you can grab a free Jamie/Romy/Oliver EP, created for the iTunes’ 12 Days of Christmas giveaway, snappily called ‘The xxmas’. It’s worth it for the extended mix of ‘Sunset’ by Jamie xx, download it here.

The xx @ Brixton Academy 16/11

HD had the pleasure of being at Brixton Academy on Sunday for a triumphant homecoming gig by The xx. Honed but not dulled by a busy tour schedule, they put on a masterclass in atmosphere, drawing out the sultry first album classics and turning up the volume for the more beat-driven second album tunes. Jamie xx pulled the strings expertly, never more so than when he weaved ‘Movin’ Too Fast’, ‘Another Groove’ and The Streets’ classic ‘Blinded by the Lights’ into a beefed-up, nostalgic version of ‘Chained’. No doubt it was influenced by the recent John Talabot remix which leans heaving on The Streets’ sample. Oh, and did we mention that John Talabot was the SUPPORT ACT…
Oliver, Jamie and Romy have also got into the festive spirit with a surprisingly upbeat take on ‘Last Christmas’, done for the Live Lounge:
They’ve still got it. Oh yes.

FACT Advent Giveaway

Those of you who are all up with us on twitter (good choice) will know that we’ve been championing WotNot Music’s advent giveaway, and here’s another countdown to get crunk with.
Those cool cats over at FACT are giving away free downloads from their fave people of 2012, who just happen to be our faves too! They kicked things off with a stormer from MotM Ryan Hemsworth, remixing our very own Craig David:
Here are the next two, an esoteric mash-up from statesiders Nguzunguzu and a cut from odd couple The Orb and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry:
LuckyMe are also doing a similar thing over the last 12 days, but we’ll probably give that a miss. NOT.
