Bicep & Hammer – ARACARI

Aus Music’s turning the grand old age of 10 soon and to celebrate they’re presenting a whopping 24-track, quadruple vinyl, triple CD release. 90% of the label artist who’ve released on Aus are going to contribute so you can expect tracks from heavyweights such as Midland, Pearson Sound, Breach and Nick Hoppner. There’ll also be a global tour to accompany the birthday, as well as curated stages at festivals and full length albums from Sei A and Youandewan.

To coincide with this and Aus Music’s 100th release, Boiler Room are hosting a five-part debut series over the next month or so, culminating in a very special Boiler Room x Aus100 takeover in London town, featuring Nick Hoppner, Marquis Hawkes, Will Saul and one special guest.

First up in the series this week Bicep and Hammer re-join forces to produce the moving and atmospheric gem that is ‘ARACARI’. Stay tuned for the rest of the bunch.

Human Drizzle: The Playlist, December 2015

Regular readers may be aware that our playlist game has been far from strong of late, and for that we sincerely apologise. However we can assure you it’s worth the wait. There’s a lot of good music on this one.

In the past month Hubie Davison’s disco-sampling ‘Sanctified’ finally got a release on Midland’s ReGraded label, and Future Classic have been busy nurturing new psych-pop band World Champion. Kidnap Kid’s channelling a deeper, nigh-Innervisions style to his production and Auntie Flo released one of our albums of the year.

Plus new tracks from HD faves Lorca, Doc Daneeka, Dusky and a whole lot more. It’s a real goodie. And you can take this overdue bundle of joy as purely an appetiser for our Best of 2015 playlist, due to land in a couple of weeks.

All that’s left is for you to press play and for us to wish you a whole load of peace and goodwill this Christmas. Have a good one.

Hubie Davison – Sanctified

Congrats, you made it. It’s Friday.

Preach.

The ‘Sanctified’ EP from Hubie Davison is the second release on Midland’s nascent ReGraded label and this eponymous title track is something to lift the spirits and usher in the weekend. We like to imagine our legions of readers (hi to both of you!) boogying and shuffling their way out of the office to this one.

Steve Cobby – We Start Over (Tuff City Kids Private Acid Mix)

Acid house, our favourite type of residence.

All the way from Hull via Germany, the Tuff City Kids mix of ‘We Start Over’ by Steve Cobby is a Balearic delight and nicely warming us up for the White Isle pilgrimage this summer. Tuff City Kids, aka men o’ the moment Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer, have taken on the Hull resident’s deep original and made it rave-ready. They’ve also whipped up a Garage Dub, the thought of which excites us. All in all another classy release from International Feel.

David August – Her Myth

David August reached 100k Facebook fans last week so decided to release the delicious ‘Her Myth’ on a free DL, good times. It’s the sort of ambient dance music we’ve come to expect from the Berliner in recent years, littered with minimal melodies and varied synths. Take five and have a listen:

If you’re wondering how this relaxed number would fit onto the dancefloor, listen no further to his Boiler Room from last year, it’s a real treat:

Garden City Movement – My Only Love

Sometimes you just need some soothing electro-pop. Some beats, but also some major key chords:

Garden City Movement are a relatively green (they formed just over a year ago) three piece from Tel Aviv and they’re evoking welcome memories of early Mount Kimbie and James Blake. ‘My Only Love’ is the first taster from their ‘Modern West’ EP, out on 6th April on BLDG5 Records and The Vinyl Factory.

For a longer listen, check in (and chill out) to their Tel Aviv Boiler Room performance:

Project Pablo – Follow It Up

It’s a jam and no mistake:

Continuing on their rapid ascent since being birthed in 2013, Canadian label 1080p have put out this jazzy house wanderer of a track by Project Pablo. ‘Follow It Up’ has some Italo Disco flavours and will continue your post-New Year recuperation nicely. Shouts to Boiler Room Debuts for setting it free.

Hudson Mohawke – Brainwave

It’s ok guys, the weekend’s here.

Feeling a little sore-headed after thinking the weekend started today? This new one from Hudson Mohawke should help. ‘Brainwaves’ moves away from the glitchy abrasiveness of ‘Chimes’, our other taster from his upcoming Warp EP, and paints a picture for you. Soaring choral backing nicely compliments an ambient loop that never drops and is all the better for it.

If you like your HudMo a little longer and more dancefloor, enjoy this recent Boiler Room you animal:

Stephan Bodzin & Marc Romboy – Kerberos

As summer draws to a close, darker days mean darker tunes.  ‘Kerberos’ is haunting techno at its finest, with an enchanting melody and atmospheric build-ups all the way through.  Very reminiscent of David August’s work we raved about here.

Released on Romboy’s Systematic label, ‘Kerberos’ is the latest in collaborations between these techno titans that go back to 2005.  It’s sparser and darker than what we’ve heard from them before, but it’s all the better for it.

If you like it, check out their Boiler Room in Sao Paulo last month for more of the good stuff.

Shelby Grey – Leave It All Behind

Equal parts pop and techno”. Surely not, you say? YES:

Courtesy of Boiler Room Debuts comes ‘Leave It All Behind’, a taster from Factor City label boss Shelby Grey’s upcoming EP on Holographic People. It’s melodic without being saccharine and we’re pretty hyped about the new record, as you should be.
