Lxury – Square 1 (feat. Deptford Goth)

The brand new ‘Into The Everywhere’ EP from rising star Lxury is out now on Greco-Roman, and here’s the recent cut, ‘Square 1’. It’s a quirky piece of house-pop which includes a stellar line-up. Daniel Woolhouse from Deptford Goth is on the vocals and the tune’s co-written by Friendly Fires’ frontman Ed Macfarlane. Should be hitting a radio near you soon.

It comes armed with the animated video below, something about African funeral ritual dances, apparently.

Lxury – Let Down

A nice salve for the soul this fresh 2015 Tuesday:

We’ve been giving props to Lxury’s brand of soulful house since he blasted onto the scene last year and ‘Let Down’ is another four minutes for the collection. Alongside ‘Pick You Up’, this is a taster of his upcoming Greco-Roman EP, certainly one to look out for in the quiet early year months.

An excellent start to Ms. Mac’s Free Music Mondays in 2015 too…

Lxury – Pick You Up

Get a load of this to brighten up your Thursday.

‘Pick You Up’ is the first single from Lxury‘s upcoming EP, Into the Everywhere, on Greco-Roman. After cutting his teeth at Disclosure’s Method Records, Lxury appears to have found his musical home at GR and it’s easy to see why. His buoyant, soulful house fits nicely next to the likes of Joe Goddard and Roosevelt. If this is your kind of thing, you’ll LOVE his Mixmag mix from a couple of months back

Into the Everywhere is set for release on February 16th next year.

CHVRCHES – Lies (Lxury Remix)

As part of the remix package CHVRCHES are releasing on Virgin Records on 2nd December, here’s Lxury’s rework of ‘Lies’, a shimmering and bouncy four minutes of fun.

We wouldn’t like to overuse the phrase ‘one to watch’, but we’ve been keeping a close eye on Lxury since we fell for his debut release ’J.A.W.S/We Do’ back in September. Not only was this catchy release shifted through Disclosure’s very own imprint Method Records, but the brothers Lawrence dropped the A-side in their Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1.

This sits comfortably on the release with one of our most played of the month, the wonderful effort from Tourist:

Lxury – We Do

Since it was dropped on Disclosure’s Essential Mix back in early August, ‘J.A.W.S’ by newcomer Luxury has racked up over 300,000 plays on his Soundcloud alone.

Since then he’s gone and done a Cat Stevens on us. A Prince. A J-Lo. Luxury made the big decision to drop the ‘u’ and has a BrandNu name, that of Lxury (Gold star if you can tell us who now performs under that BrandNu moniker…).

Tenuous name changes aside, Lxury’s recently uploaded the B-side to ‘J.A.W.S’, and it’s really rather good. Co-produced by Guy Lawrence of Disclosure fame, ‘We Do’ is as silky as its A-side (and many a Disclosure tune for that matter), and the main vocal is very catchy indeed.

Both ‘J.A.W.S’ and ‘We Do’ are available to buy now, right here. Unsurprisingly they are released via Disclosure’s very own imprint Method Records, which has seen a lot of air time on these pages of late.  Understandably so, check out these two quality recent releases from the label:

Eat Your Own Ears X Greco-Roman @ Electrowerkz

HD took a trip to Islington’s Electrowerkz for a mid-week knees-up last Thursday to catch a Greco-Roman showcase.

Sadly due to our own tardiness paired with apocalyptic scenes on London’s transport networks, we missed out on the delights of Micachu & Tirzah, so first up for us was HD favourite Lxury. He stepped up and played an hour of non-stop groove, throwing on much of his own production along the way. It had been far too long since we’d listened to THIS:

George T, Greco-Roman’s new boy on the block, stepped up next to push us into the early hours. Nicknamed by the label the ‘Gentlemen of Techno’, the Edinburgh-based DJ drove up the tempo and delivered a high-energy set including his latest release ‘I’ll Do Anything’.

As the final hours drew to a close, the label really came into its own. There are few closer and more fun-loving labels than Greco-Roman and as Roosevelt serenely closed things out, the whole GR family was on the dancefloor till the end.

All in all, it was an impressive back-to-basics showcase from one of the most varied labels in the business. With forthcoming releases like Micachu & Tirzah’s wonky pop, ‘90s house jams from George T and the “free-range funk” of Bullion, GR looks set to continue unearthing the weirdest and most wonderful dance music around. We’ll be keeping an eye on them for sure.

Human Drizzle: The Playlist, February 2015

Ah January, what a blast! Not.

Now that the second most miserable month of the year (hello February!) is out of the way, you can wrap your ears around our musical highlights from the last few weeks. Big releases from Ghostly International; new kids on the block Kalyde, Apres and Lxury causing a stir; and there’s that delightful Kolsch remix nestled in there too.

Just as importantly, stay tuned for some exciting announcements from HD HQ soon. We be planning some parties.

Kattison – Know You’re Ready

Those long-time HD followers (yeah that’s you) will know that we’re big fans of Greco-Roman. Releasing the likes of Roosevelt, Lxury, label co-owner Joe Goddard and other HD favourites, the Greco-Roman family is an illustrious group. Kattison is the new signing to the label and his debut single ‘Know You’re Ready’ has already caught the ears of tastemakers Annie Mac and Monki.

It’s a delightful dancefloor shuffler with weighty basslines throughout, sure to make your Tuesday morning move that little bit quicker.
