Lil Silva – Lines (George FitzGerald Remix)

George FitzGerald’s given Lil Silva’s recent single ‘Lines’ the once over. Chopping up samples over an infectious beat, GF retains the atmosphere of the original whilst ensuring the tune’s dancefloor-ready.

Lil Silva’s six track ‘Jimi’ EP hits the shelves on 6th May via Good Years Music.

Lil Silva – Mask

Hey guys, it’s Friday!

Get your heckles up with this new one from Bedford’s Lil Silva:

It’s the first track from his upcoming ‘The Distance’ EP (out on Good Years August 6th) and it’s the kind of nuanced UK funky that has seen Lil S endure whilst his scene-buddies have fallen off.

Lil Silva & Banks – Work

Bedford boy Lil Silva made his name with razor-sharp UK Funky instrumentals but is now branching out with a collaboration with LA vocalist Banks. Both parties have new singles coming out soon and this video-only release has whet the appetite for the pair. The Katy B-esque strains of Banks and Lil Silva’s whip-crackin percussion make for compulsive listening, especially as there isn’t the “drop” that seems a pre-requisite these days (old man rant over). The pared down last 30 seconds is worth sticking around for.

And here’s our favourite Lil Silva track from time gone past. Pop it on and see if your shoulders don’t start rolling:

SOHN remixes

SOHN blew us away last year with his debut single ‘The Wheel’ [insert joke about reinventing said wheel here], and he’s continued to hone his sound with some top, top remixes.

First up is a dark and brooding rework of LA vocalist Banks’s ‘Before I Ever Met You’. Banks was last seen on these pages collaborating with UK Funky maestro Lil Silva so she’s got a serious nose for talent.

We were lucky enough to catch Laura Mvula as part of Giles Peterson’s 6Music live sessions t’other week and, whilst she needs no help being brilliant, a pared down, sensual remix by SOHN doesn’t hurt anyone…

Keep it up.

AlunaGeorge – Watching Over You

We were seriously impressed by AlunaGeorge’s debut single, ‘Your Drums, Your Love’, and the duo’s second offering continues to impress. ‘Watching Over You’ will feature on Annie Mac’s upcoming compilation (as do an ever-growing list of bangers…) and is another slice of smooth future RnB: George’s production again bringing the best out of, you guessed it, Aluna’s vocals.

For those of you of a certain age, the video should tug on the heart-strings too. FACT summed it up perfectly as “an experience akin to watching someone flip through old VHS tapes while standing outside in the rain.”

Here’s ‘Your Drums, Your Love’ for you too, along with our favourite remix from Bedford’s finest dark n funky producer, Lil Silva.
