Human Drizzle Presents…Mighty Mouse, Clancy & Black Magic Disco @ Peckham Palais

Human_Drizzle_flyer_print (1) - CopyAnd the Met Office reckon St Jude was the biggest thing hitting the South-East this week…

Human Drizzle Presents is now a little over 48 hours away. With thunderous looking House, Garage and Disco clouds gathering over SE15, we’ve been extremely busy battening down the hatches, buying supplies and getting the Peckham Palais equipped for you to come and take shelter.

Time is running out for you to reserve your space…so get to it!

Firstly, we have a trio of top DJs to help you through the driving rain and flying garden furniture. We are delighted to welcome Mighty Mouse to Peckham as he makes his Human Drizzle Presents debut. So many great tracks and remixes to be found on his Soundcloud that will warm your cockles and get you in the mood for Friday. Here are a couple we’ve cherry-picked for you…

Our old mucker and Human Drizzle Presents veteran – this is his second appearance – Clancy brings his growing reputation to the Palais. Long-term readers of Human Drizzle will know our affection for Clancy, and it’s hard for us to limit our favourite tracks of his. We’ll go with…

Finally, all the way from a land down under, we welcome the scorching hot Black Magic Disco. The man himself is almost as excited about his performance at Human Drizzle Presents as we are. So much so he has kindly done a mix for us to showcase his skills and get us all buzzing for this Friday. We’re positively vibing off his enthusiasm.

We also introduce newcomer and friend of Human Drizzle, Hot Karl. He’ll be spinning some ‘funky, funky, funky house beats’ for us before the pros take over.

Early bird tickets have now sold out. £7 tickets are available until 6pm on Friday – get them here. If you still haven’t got one by that point, there will be some for a tenner on the door.

We’ve literally thought of everything, so come in from the cold and join us on Friday. We can’t wait to see you all there.

EXCLUSIVE: Black Magic Disco x Human Drizzle mix

If you look up Friday in the dictionary, it would play this mix whilst you read about it being the last day of the working week.

In advance of his appearance at the ONLY Halloween party to be seen at (tickets here), friend of Human Drizzle and dancefloor puppet-master Black Magic Disco has stitched together an hour of tunes to raise the heart-rate. It’s a showcase of the disco and garage infused house he’ll be spinning a week today, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him on the bill.

Human_Drizzle_flyer_print (1) - Copy

Anticipation at HD HQ for our last party of the year is bubbling up very nicely. In just over two weeks time, we will be welcoming not one, not two, not even three, but four of our favourite DJs to South London’s Peckham Palais. We have Mighty Mouse, Clancy, Black Magic Disco and Hot Karl playing some records for your dancing delectation on Friday 1st November.

Tickets are currently a steal at £5 a pop, so grab ‘em now from the link below, and tell all your mates over here.

THE LINE-UP…

As regular readers of HD will know, we’ve been big fans of Mighty Mouse since day one. Over the past few years he’s carved out an excellent reputation for penning feel-good disco house tunes, and we cannot wait to have him headline proceedings on 1st November. Here’s a taster:

Besides his original work, he’s started a compilation series entitled ‘Disco Circus’, has released a string of consistently good mixtapes and been responsible for countless remixes. More recently however, he has formed Du Tonc with Matt Van Schie from Van She. They’ve released one mixtape and written four excellent original tracks, all released on their own label Night Film. ‘Darkness’ could quite possibly be our pop tune of the year. We are stoked to have him playing.

Next up we have Human Drizzle Presents alumnus Clancy. Having totally smashed it at the Bussey Building for our party back in April, we thought we’d get the budding London via Manchester producer back for another slot. He’s released a long list of free-to-download tunes before being recruited by Dirt Crew Recordings to put out his debut EP on their new imprint S P I E L. He’s going from strength to strength.

We also welcome Black Magic Disco all the way from Australia. Having had releases on Toolroom Records and Pole Position Records, he makes 90s garage and house-infused tracks which should be perfect for Peckham’s former department store. He’s known to compile quite the mixtape too, have a listen:

Warming up proceedings from 10pm will be the enigmatic newcomer, Hot Karl.

There’s a whole load of fun to be had. Bag your ticket now and come join us.

Friday 1st November, 10pm – 5am, Peckham Palais.

Black Magic Disco – Black Magic Mixtape 005

Black Magic Disco has changed. For those who have enjoyed his previous appearances on these pages, this may not be welcome news. His brand of cheerful, melodic disco has warmed the hearts of many in what have been fairly humourless musical climes of late. But in recent months his sound has acquired a harder edge, and this latest mixtape is an altogether more serious proposition. He hasn’t lost his sense for a banger though, and it’s well worth a listen.

Just to confuse things, he’s also released a nicely laid-back, instrumental hip hop jam called ‘I Believe in Music’. Yeah, you heard us. Next steps from here? We suggest you listen to both and let us know what you think of the new direction(s) here, here or (what the hell) even here.

Bit Funk & Black Magic Disco Mixtape 003

This latest offering from Bit Funk has been swirling round HD HQ for a while now, we hope you’ll agree it’s heaps of fun. Steeped in nostalgia, the funky vibes should drag you kicking and screaming into the weekend. In a good way. It’s featured on many a mix of late, including this one from Black Magic Disco. Armed with hot tracks from the likes of Waze & Odyssey, Moullinex and Tensnake, and all yours for free at the click of a button, you’d be foolish not to download it right this second, it’s top.

And, speaking of top mixes, SlothBoogie released a new one this week. It’s a very different proposition from Black Magic Disco – with all manner of vocal samples and a nasty, ghetto house thing going on. A nice antidote, if you fancy one, to the festive cheer rapidly approaching on the horizon.

Black Magic Disco – Black Magic Mixtape 002

We have been fans of Black Magic Disco for some time now, having covered both the glorious Axel Def back in January and the first Black Magic Mixtape last month. So you may have some inkling at the happiness we felt earlier this week when the Antipodean plate-spinner notified us of the birth of the follow-up.

This happiness then turned to what can only be described as unbridled euphoria when we saw that the new mix opens up with two recent HD favourites, in the shape of Audiojack’s rework of Homework and (promise this is the last mention this month), Julio Bashmore’s Au Seve. The rest of the mix has a fun, retro flavour – and all in all it’s both a right laugh and a thoroughly good use of 53 minutes.

Black Magic Disco – Axel Def

Regular readers will know that we are fanatical devotees of Aeroplane’s monthly(ish) mixes. But the Belgian balearic talisman is not the only DJ in the commendable habit of releasing regular, consistently excellent nu-disco sets for free.

British duo Cosmonauts have been doing the same thing for some time with their Top Ten Mixes, and the January instalment is a real peach. The highlight for us is an irresistibly bouncy little number by Black Magic Disco (aka London DJ, Justin Long). Cheekily named ‘Axel Def’, the tune features exactly the combination of snappy handclaps, whimsical synths and funky basslines that make this genre so appealing.

Cosmonauts play the Scala on Saturday 25th February as part of a pant-wettingly good line-up, about which you will be hearing a lot more from us (apologies if we bore you, but you really should buy a ticket). In the meantime, enjoy their mixes and count down the days until summer.

Human Drizzle Presents @ Peckham Palais

With the chapter now closed on the fourth instalment of Human Drizzle Presents, we’d like to say a massive thank you to all those who came down to the glamorous Peckham Palais on Friday night. Massive props to Clancy, Mighty Mouse, Black Magic Disco and newcomer Hot Karl, who kept the dancefloor jumping all night with banger after banger.

The list really is endless but Black Magic Disco’s garage-infused set was finished superbly with the above excellent Friend Within remix of Fatboy Slim’s classic. Mighty Mouse kept the momentum going with two hours jam-packed with feel-good tones, paving the way very nicely for Clancy to take things an incy bit deeper before the close of play. The epic piano house of Kolsch’s ‘Der Alte’ is still ringing in our ears:

Check out the first photos below (courtesy of the excellent Associated Luminosity) and keep your eye on our Facebook page for the full set. That was the last Human Drizzle Presents of 2013, but fear not. Plans are already coming together for our next night – a post-January pick-me-up/pre-Valentine’s Day blow-out on Friday 7th February 2014.

Human Drizzle: The Playlist, October 2013

It’s that time again. All our tunes from the last month in one easy-to-use playlist, escorted by our usual carefully selected Top 5 tracks of the month. Reprimand us on Twitter and/or Facebook if you feel we’ve made any howling errors on this month’s selections.

This should tide things over nicely until our FINAL PARTY OF THE YEAR. In 28 days time we will be taking over the former department store now known as Peckham Palais and assembling a frighteningly good line-up for our Halloween party. Heading back down South of the river, we welcome the fabulous Mighty Mouse to headline proceedings. Support on the 1s and 2s comes from long-time HD fave Clancy and before him, all the way from Australia, is Black Magic Disco. Let’s make him feel welcome.

Friday 1st November. Block it out. Tickets are currently a steal at just £5 a pop, so snap one/loads up from the link below and tell your pals about it here.

Now the music:

And here are our top 5 tracks of the month:

1. Just Kiddin’ – Feeling Better: This Northamptonshire duo are hot property right now and this track shows why, a beautful house stomper. Try hard to catch them in London over the next few months.

2. Tourist – Together: Brighton-based producer has upped the tempo on this new release and it’s very welcome indeed. Keep your ears peeled for the EP in December…

3. Four Tet – Parallel Jalebi:Towering piece of electronica from HD royalty. Check out ‘Beautiful Rewind’, now.

4. Moby – Another Perfect Life (Andrew Weatherall Remix): Andrew Weatherall turns Moby’s new one into a euphoric, sing-along anthem.

5. Bodhi – Imperfection: With an upcoming EP on Future Classic and this brilliant piece of catchy pop, the Welsh duo are slowly taking over. Catch them on their UK tour this Autumn…

D.I.S.C.O

Edging closer towards Friday, here’s a look at our favourite two mixes of the moment that should entice you into the weekend.

First up is Australian producer Black Magic Disco’s September 2012 Mix. The first he’s done yet, this is jam-packed with top tunes from the likes of Anna Lunoe, Vanilla Ace and HD fave Jonas Rathsman. He beautifully blends nu disco and house right up to the carnival-themed closer in A.N.D.Y’s remix of The Supermen Lovers’ ‘Say No More’. This is sure to get you moving your feet. Free to download, grab it now!

Another mix comes from Paulie, one half of Cosmonauts. Paulie’s Hot Mix No. 2 here is testament to why we’re so chuffed to have the London-based D.I.S.C.O afficianados as the headline act at the Human Drizzle Presents party we’ve been gearing towards … (if you’re in London on 13th October – 6 quid, 4 acts, lots of dancing and all the proceeds go to charity, what more could you want?) His new mix here is free to download too, check it out and bring the weekend that little bit closer.
