Toro Y Moi – So Many Details

Chillwave grandee Toro Y Moi has loosed the first single off his upcoming album in our direction, and we like it. Chaz Bundick – Toro’s earth name – has said that the new album, called ‘Anything in Return’ and out on Carpark in the new year, is him “trying to make sincere pop music that’s not all processed and bubblegum.” We think he’s done a decent job, ‘So Many Details’ is a funkier, more urgent tune than his previous out-of-focus compositions:

Hopefully this reflects a coming together of Toro with Chaz’s other moniker, Les Sins, under which he’s produced some really quite good four-to-the-floor dance music over the past few years. The pick of the bunch being ‘Youth Gone’:

‘So Many Details’ will hit selected stores on November 23rd for Record Store Day‘s Back to Black Friday (GOOD CAUSE ALERT), together with a remix by the man himself featuring Hodgy Beats of Odd Future fame. Worth a punt.

Ryan Hemsworth – Still Awake

We have a well-documented (by us) affection for Canadian beatsmith Ryan Hemsworth, so imagine our delight when he chucked out a FREE EP for our delectation:

It’s seven tracks of relatively poppy electronica with the occasional splash of stunted hip hop percussion to remind us of his roots. Lovely work listening.

Annoyingly the only UK slots for his upcoming One Man Boy Band tour are as part of the Brixton Academy smash-it-up-a-thon The Playground Festival, and supporting Toro Y Moi at Koko, neither of which offers enough time to gaze adoringly at the big guy, we feel.

We’ll probably go to both anyway.

Goldroom – Solé Fixtape Vol. 7

Here’s a gentle one to start the week. Goldroom’s gone and done a mixtape for LA-based fixie bike store Sole Bicycles. It’s the seventh in their aptly-named ‘Fixtape’ Series and is chock-a-block with sunny delights. Toro Y Moi features, as does Bit Funk and Chris Malinchak, it’s very warm to say the least, tracklisting can be seen here. This comes as Goldroom recently dropped his re-work of pop ballad ‘You (Ha Ha Ha)’ by Charli XCX.
