Harry Wolfman & Jouhl – ’96 Affair EP

In December of last year Harry Wolfman and Jouhl produced ‘Session Tape’, a warm and fuzzy three minutes that was released on Purp & Soul*.

As we’ve pretty much rinsed that one to death, it’s lucky that the two of them have now re-united for a four track EP entitled ”96 Affair’. It comprises two original tracks and two remixes provided by James Welsh and Friend Within. Swirling synths provide the backdrop for both new cuts, with infectious vocal loops and a flutter of percussion that helps create a futuristic sound. The remixes are worth checking out too – the drop halfway through Friend Within’s version is a particular highlight.

For the regular readers amongst you, you may be aware that Mr Wolfman is set to headline our next party on 5th April, Human Drizzle Presents. This release only ramps up our excitement for what should be a blinding set by the lad in one of South London’s standout venues, The Bussey Building. Snap up your tickets now.

* If you’re unaware of the Purp & Soul crew, they’re a Manchester-based collective co-run by HD fave and creator of twenty twelve stomper ‘What I Might Do’Ben Pearce. They’re a label, artist agency and promotions company doing things on their own terms. They’ve been developing a group of artists and fans who have one thing in common, a love for house music. Count us in.

Human Drizzle: The Mixtape, Valentines Day Special | Laurence Guy

483668_487617934630936_1682182920_nDespite what you might think from the fast-lovin’ lifestyle we obviously live at Human Drizzle, we’ve got a romantic side too. And so, given it’s the fourteenth day of the second month today, it’s time for HD to dim the lights, undo a couple of buttons on our black satin shirt, expose some chest rug and show you how it’s done…

Well not really, actually. Whilst we’re prepared to shell out for some Peruvian tapas on Valentine’s Day to keep Hallmark happy, we can’t claim to be smooth, suave or in any way ‘sexy’. But that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate it when someone else has got the moves. So, thank you very much to Mr Laurence Guy with his wonderfully louche Valentines mixtape. Very kindly, he’s allowed us to bring this 62 minutes of soul and funk to your attention as something of an exclusive. Good man, that Laurence.

And the man’s got some game. In March 2013, Laurence was picked up by Ben Pearce‘s Purp & Soul and became one of their family, he released tracks on labels such as London’s ISM Records, Manchester’s Purp & Soul & the recent House of Kolour compilation with an EP due on House of Disco.

Just goes to show we’re not exclusively about dancefloor-shredders here at HD, and you’d basically have to be dead not to appreciate the groove on this mixtape. Absolutely perfect for some Valentine’s loving. Enjoy yourself.

Ben Pearce – Lego

Ben Pearce’s got another cannon in his artillery.

Dropped exclusively courtesy of Mixmag, ‘Lego’ is the lead single from the upcoming ‘Lego’ EP, which will be released on his own label Purp & Soul. Check out his tour dates over the next few months; this one’s going to sound ace on the dancefloor. As will this top Kwabs remix he did recently, for that matter:

Human Drizzle: The Playlist June 2013

A list of last month’s best new music that you can play, at your leisure, in Soundcloud. That sounds good (geddit?) doesn’t it?

Your wish is our command. Check out the player below for a rundown of everything we’ve got our grubby hands on this month, together with our Top 5 big ‘uns. If you think we’ve got it totally wrong, completely arse over tit, then let us know here or here.

Also, watch this space for further details on the next Human Drizzle Presents… I know it’s been difficult to plan your summer without knowing more but, fear not, it’s coming. AUGUST 3RD.

And here are our top 5 tracks of the month:

1. MS MR – Hurricane (CHRVCHES Remix): The Glasgow three-piece are red hot right now, and rightly so. Top spot for their rework of NY duo MS MR.

2. Joel Compass – Fucked Up (Huxley remix): Huxley does his thing on newcomer Joel Compass, with predictably great results.

3. Ben Pearce – Patticakes: The Purp & Soul bossman dishes up a summer disco jam.

4. Moon Boots – Love Strong: The latest on the French Express giveaway production line, and it’s glorious.

5. Holy Other – Held (Fort Romeau remix): South London’s Mike Norris going all hypnotic house on Holy Other.

HARRY WOLFMAN

CLANCY

ALEX BLAXX

REAL

If you’re not clued up on who these chaps are, or want to remind yourself of their talents, here’s a handy guide of what to expect.

First up is Harry Wolfman, who started causing a stir a year ago with his breakthrough hit ‘Don’t You Know’.

Since then he’s released an EP for Purp & Soul and whilst at it caused some hot fuss for remixing label boss Ben Pearce’s classic ‘What I Might Do’. He’s just dropped his second EP, ‘Booty Call’, and it’s got some serious groove, neatly blending deep house with some nice garage touches. Feast your ears:

Regular readers will appreciate we’re pretty stoked to have Clancy playing. His Little Dragon remix from last year is pretty much faultless and his latest track ‘How To Hold On To You’ has already become one of our most-played tracks of this year. We’ve also caught wind of some new releases in the not-too-distant future. Get excited.

Coming to you from Cape Town via Manchester is Alex Blaxx, who is forging quite the name for himself on the underground house scene. His debut release ‘The Evening Fly’ has already received support from the likes of Bicep and Huxley, and DJ Mag were so impressed with him they invited him to work a set alongside Space Dimension Controller. 2013 looks set to be a very promising year for him.

Last and by no means least we have London-based Real (a.k.a. Boean), who wowed us with ‘My Resignation’ towards the end of last year, an EP of post-everything goodness. Having played a wicked set just a few weeks ago for i-D magazine at XOYO, we are pumped to now have him playing for us. Here are two tracks by the young lad, one old one featuring a Lauryn Hill vocal and a new one forthcoming on XVI Records entitled ‘Don’t Need Ya Love’.

See you there.
