Oneman, xxxy & Bondax mixes

Mixes, mixes, everywhere. Couple of longer ones here to keep you trucking this Friday.

First up is the one man you’d most want spinning the tunes at your house party, Oneman. His two hour mix for the Diplo & Friends show on Radio 1 and 1xtra is 50 songs worth of goodness, seamlessly weaving club house, R&B, grime and more as only he can do.  The (lengthy) tracklist can be found here.

Second up and repping Manchester is producer and selector xxxy. Taken from his recent set for Red Bull Music Academy at SonarSound in Tokyo last month, imagine it as the slightly reserved but intense cousin of the mix above. Listen here.

Finally, it’d be remiss if we didn’t also point you in the direction of an unashamedly fun new mix from Bondax for XLR8R. In advance of their first LP later this year, remind yourself why everyone bloody loves these two and download the mix here. If you needed more convincing, it includes this bundle of fun:

Those should keep you going.

The xx – Chained (ONEMAN 119 House Edit)

Rinse DJ and serious selector DJ Oneman occasionally blesses us with one of his own productions and he’s uncorked a real one here, twisting The xx’s downbeat bedroom jam ‘Chained’ into a dancefloor-ready jackin’ house tune. That’s all you need to know really.

For a taste of Oneman’s selecting skills, check out a recent set he did for Young Turks down under:

Also, whilst we’re on The xx, the speedy amongst you can grab a free Jamie/Romy/Oliver EP, created for the iTunes’ 12 Days of Christmas giveaway, snappily called ‘The xxmas’. It’s worth it for the extended mix of ‘Sunset’ by Jamie xx, download it here.

Can U Dance – BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix

Selector superduo Can U Dance swung by Glastonbury on their European tour last week, and blasted out an hour of music to get you PUMPED:

Put out there as an Essential Mix, it’s Oneman and Jackmaster at their very best, racing through tunes from INXS to The Streets and clearly enjoying their new project. In fairness, who wouldn’t? It’s basically an opportunity for them to play wall-to-wall bangers at festivals all summer.

Mount Kimbie – Made To Stray (DJ Koze Remix)

After eulogising DJ Koze’s ‘Amygdala’ earlier this year, we’ve kept an even closer eye on his activities and, joy of joys, he’s been drafted in for remixing duties by another HD fave, Mount Kimbie.

Koze’s stretched ‘Made to Stray’ into eight minutes of comparatively lush electronica; it’s a blissed out cut with the occasional quirky beat change.

The track’s from an upcoming ‘CSFLY Remixes’ EP, released October 28th on Warp. Enjoy a selection of the rest of the EP, handpicked by us, below (the pick of the bunch being Oneman and Jeremiah Jae’s languid effort):

Brackles – Never Coming Down

A chance encounter on a Human Drizzle iPod (unofficial branding) led to this and a welcome refocusing on the work of Nottingham-born, London-housed DJ/producer, Brackles. Anyone who’s caught him at legendary grime and dubstep night FWD – the Skrillex-free spiritual home of ‘proper’ dubstep – will know that he puts on quite the show, effortlessly blending the sharper edges of UK grime and garage percussion with some dancefloor synths.

Now he’s blessing us with his debut LP as the latest curator of the Rinse series. Rinse Presents…Brackles is out on 7th May and should be the first thing you part with money for next week. The opening track, ‘Never Coming Down’ (complete with impeccable garage vocals from Lily McKenzie) showcases his skills perfectly, chopping up some UKG for a shuffling club tune.

As you’d expect, he’s launching it at FWD – on 10th May, backed up by Oneman and others. Start next weekend early.
