Mount Kimbie – Made To Stray (DJ Koze Remix)

After eulogising DJ Koze’s ‘Amygdala’ earlier this year, we’ve kept an even closer eye on his activities and, joy of joys, he’s been drafted in for remixing duties by another HD fave, Mount Kimbie.

Koze’s stretched ‘Made to Stray’ into eight minutes of comparatively lush electronica; it’s a blissed out cut with the occasional quirky beat change.

The track’s from an upcoming ‘CSFLY Remixes’ EP, released October 28th on Warp. Enjoy a selection of the rest of the EP, handpicked by us, below (the pick of the bunch being Oneman and Jeremiah Jae’s languid effort):

Mount Kimbie – You Took Your Time (feat. King Krule)

Here’s a force to be reckoned with. Warp’s recent recruit Mount Kimbie have teamed up with edgy bard from London-town, King Krule. This is the third single from Mount Kimbie’s ‘Cold Spring Fault Less Youth’ album and shows the duo exploring more post-everything beats hand in hand with King Krule’s artfully wretched murmurings.

Mount Kimbie are on tour for the next few months. We suggest you investigate.

Mount Kimbie – Cold Spring Fault Less Youth

You know what we’re not excited about? Maggie Thatcher’s funeral. You know what we are excited about? Mount Kimbie’s new LP ‘Cold Spring Fault Less Youth’.

The two tracks we’ve been teased with thus far have been an evolution of their stunning first album ‘Crooks & Lovers’ – a little more edge without losing their swaying, underlying groove:

Having declared them one of the “most influential live acts to appear in the last five or so years” (having seen them a couple of times, we give this a cautious thumbs up), your boy Benji B got the duo in for a mini live session and the results are lovely, listen here.

Garden City Movement – My Only Love

Sometimes you just need some soothing electro-pop. Some beats, but also some major key chords:

Garden City Movement are a relatively green (they formed just over a year ago) three piece from Tel Aviv and they’re evoking welcome memories of early Mount Kimbie and James Blake. ‘My Only Love’ is the first taster from their ‘Modern West’ EP, out on 6th April on BLDG5 Records and The Vinyl Factory.

For a longer listen, check in (and chill out) to their Tel Aviv Boiler Room performance:

Kelis – Rumble (Breach Remix)

Guys, wake up.

That should have done the job. Breach continues his hot streak with the latest in a slew of remixes from Kelis’s new ‘Food’ LP on Ninja Tune; it’s a shot of cheerful house to shake off those cobwebs to.

And, as we’re here, this is our pick of the wider bunch of Kelis reworks, from our old pals Mount Kimbie:

The xx – Fiction (Maya Jane Coles Remix)

It’s always nice to see a couple of home-grown talents getting together, reppin the UK, and we can think of no better example than this new Maya Jane Coles rework of The xx:

Both have been hard at work recently, being all successful and that. The xx have finalised another blinder of a line-up for the London leg of their Night + Day series. Such luminaries as Mount Kimbie, Koreless, Kindness and London Grammar will be doing the business at Hatfield House. Meanwhile, MJC has been putting the finishing touches on her debut EP ‘Comfort’ which, by the way, she has produced, mixed, sang on AND released all herself. Hear the teaser from this astonishing effort below:

Holy Other – Held (Fort Romeau Remix)

South London-based Fort Romeau has chucked a late spring treat our way here with this hypnotic house remix of Holy Other’s ‘Held’. Having toured together last year, Mike Norris (Fort Romeau’s civilian name) had this perfectly pitched rework kicking about and has decided to give it away, for no money.

For something a little more filter-tastic, try Tim Hecker’s effort on the same song from last year:

Holy Other is currently touring the world with Mount Kimbie and they both play, along with every other DJ ever, at Field Day in London this weekend.

Hello lunchtime viewing…

Red Bull Music Academy are expanding their output yet again, this time with a web-documentary series, H∆SHTAG$. We’ll excuse the slightly (very) silly name as Episode 1, which deals with the burst of recent contemporary R&B, is actually pretty interesting. How To Dress Well, Miguel and The Weeknd producer Zodiac all offer their thoughts on this renaissance and its roots and implications. Zodiac has also donated a track to the cause, and it’s lovely listening. All stuttering beats and twisted vocals.

Future episodes are said to include interviews with TNGHT, Mount Kimbie, Flying Lotus and Main Attrakionz so we’ll certainly be watching this particular space.

What a multi-media post.

Real – Whoever Said

‘Whoever Said’ is the second track off of London-based Real‘s new EP, entitled ‘My Resignation’. The release is brought to you by Wotnot Music and is nothing short of what we’ve come to expect from the label that ‘focus on creativity, the creative process and exploring innovative new music.’ This track immediately reminds us of ‘Carbonated‘ by post-everythings Mount Kimbie, with a similar urgency to the beat and a contagious feel to the melody. You can stream the whole EP preview below, also featuring the catchy title track with accompanying remix from Blacksmif.

It’s an exciting few weeks ahead for the Wotnot crew as they’re about to embark on the excellent tradition of their Wotnot Advent Calendar. Yep, you guessed it, the generous gents give away a free track every day in the build up to Chrimbo; more on that nearer the time. On top of that, preperations are under way for their Xmas party at Vinyl Pimp‘s Hackney HQ. Expect a showcase of the fine talent on the Wotnot roster, including DeftChesslo Junior, Real, JJ Mumbles and more. Definitely one for the diary, it’s free entry so there’s no excuses.

Lastly, and by no means least, Real, who also performs under the moniker Boean, gave away this rework of Lauren Hill’s ‘Doo Wop‘ last week as a Friday Jamm. Dangerous listening for so early on in the week, this is big.
