Jacques Greene – FACT Mix 467 (Oct ’14)

What a treat of a Monday morning.

Ahead of his performance on Friday at London’s Roundhouse (where HD will be hugging the barriers down the front), all-time HD fave Jacques Greene has pulled together a FACT mix to start your week off on the right foot. Together with some J Greene unreleased stuff, there’s also a cracking Evian ‘Trance Lord’ Christ track to watch out for.

It kicks off with a graduation speech given by Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs at Howard University, that’s all you need to know really.

Jacques Greene – No Excuse (Fort Romeau Remix)

Fresh new delivery from Mr Mike Greene, aka Fort Romeau.

In remixing Jacques Greene‘s ‘No Excuse’ (yes, we were fairly excited about the prospect of this combo too) he’s served up just over six minutes of the kind of blissed-out, progressive house we’ve come to expect from HD’s favourite ex-member of La Roux.

If these two are on the team sheet, the result’s undoubtedly going to be the kind of music you can properly get lost in. Enjoy:

Released 30th May on the trusty LuckyMe Records, grab a copy here.

Jacques Greene – Phantom Vibrate EP

FINALLY. The new Jacques Greene EP, ‘Phantom Vibrate’ is out, on Glasgow’s finest, LuckyMe Records. The almost-Gospel like ‘Feel What’ was uploaded yesterday, joining track number one from the EP, ‘No Excuse’ – a heart on the sleeve slice of future RnB.

Both below, grab the EP here.

Sampha – Can’t Get Close (Jacques Greene Edit)

11 days into the Lucky Me Advent Calendar, and today’s offering ain’t too shabby at all.

It’s Jacques Greene’s edit of Sampha’s ‘Can’t Get Close’, a track written for the South Londoner’s father who died when he was just nine years old. The original’s an emotive piece and Greene keeps the important vocal intact, but extends it out and adds a most welcome piano loop. Lovely.

And the original:

Jacques Greene – Greene02

Right up our street, this is.

These two are Jacques Greene reworks of Ciara tracks now available to download for your offline pleasure. He’s packaged them both up as GREENE02 and, for continuities’ sake, here’s GREENE01 from a couple of years back:

He’s consistently doing a job.

Jacques Greene – On Your Side EP

As teased yesterday, we’re getting a new Jacques Greene EP! Yessss.

LuckyMe will be putting out the ‘On Your Side’ EP in June and it’ll be made up of the previously scribed-on ‘Quicksand’, a new one called ‘Faithful’ featuring the dulcet tones of Oliver Day Soul, and THIS:

Premiered on Zane Lowe yesterday, it’s EXACTLY what Jacques does best. He’s even gone so far as to pull in fellow R&B aficionado Tom Krell (aka How to Dress Well) on vocals, beefing up that half of his signature house-R&B blend.

Here’s Quicksand too, because you deserve it:

Jacques Greene & Tinashe – Painted Faces

Here’s the latest addition in the Songs from Scratch series that Adidas and Yours Truly have been chairing. Last month’s result was a fuzzy and downbeat offering from Shlohmo and Jeremih, and this time we’re treated to an equally exciting collaboration. Made in just one day, Jacques Greene’s trusty slick production provides the backdrop allowing Tinashe’s vocals to shine. Haunting but catchy enough. Here’s a little insight on the production front in this ‘Making Of’ too, have a peak:

Jacques Greene – Quicksand

Following on from his storming mix for FADER last week, Jacques Greene has put out the full version of ‘Quicksand’, a tune he teased us with mid-mix. It’s a textbook house groove, weaving some of his favoured seductive vocals around a weighty bassline. Anyway, enough copycat teasing from us, here’s the tune and mix:

Also, a recent snippet on Jacques’ Facebook wall alluded to studio time with US songstress Tinashe and, judging by tunes like ‘Ecstasy’ below, they’re a good fit. We promise our posting the video isn’t just a ploy to increase traffic from the single male demographic, we just can’t find a decent Soundcloud version…

Lunice & Jacques Greene Mixes

A few mixes from a few of our faves.

First up is the opening instalment of the LuckyMe partial takeover of MistaJam’s 1Xtra show, 9pm-10pm for the next 12 weeks. Lunice does the honours and it’s a typically high energy mix, nicely blending TNGHT and some of Lunice’s straight up hip hop works. Bring on the next 11.

When you’re done with that, take things into the evening with this hour of Jacques Greene for The FADER:

There’s a reason why they’re our favourites…

Jesse Boykins III & MeLo-X – The Perfect Blues (Jacques Greene Remix)

After some meatier releases, HD fave Jacques Greene has toned things down a little here and delivered a warm embrace of a remix:
He’s taken on ‘The Perfect Blues’ from singer/songwriter Jesse Boykins III and producer/MC MeLo-X’s collaboration album, ‘Zulu Guru’, with satisfying results.  Jacques has kept the soulful vocals but woven in a relaxed house beat and some muffled synths. It makes us feel safe. Here’s the original for the inquisitive amongst you:
Manic American Machinedrum has also had a crack at a rework and put his inimitable beat-driven stamp on it:
Different reworks, different vibes. Both good. Simple as.
