Eric Prydz – Opus (Four Tet remix)

On Friday evening, an excited Kieran Hebdon announced that BBC Radio 1 would be premiering his Four Tet remix of Eric Prydz’ barnstorming stadium-shaker ‘Opus’.

We usually, but not always, have other things to look forward to on a Friday night besides listening to the radio, so we missed it. However, and much to the chagrin of the hyper-loyal Pryda fanbase who can’t even contemplate one of Eric’s tracks being improved by another, the remix was uploaded to Youtube, Facebook et al.

So here it is:

Fairly monstrous. Perhaps avoid an immediate listen if you’re reading this first thing Monday morning.

Four Tet is no stranger to dipping into Prydz’ back catalogue – he played ‘Muranyi’ at Dekmantel earlier this year, during a sensational set we were lucky enough to witness.

No word as of yet on the ‘Opus’ remix getting a release.

Four Tet – BACK2THESTART

“Made this on a plane end of last year… not sure what I was thinking or why it exists.”

So says Kieran Hebden of this dancefloor-ready track he released to the masses yesterday. Lots of vocals (listen out for Ellie Goulding and Cheryl Cole), a pulsing bassline and crisp syncopated beats make it worthy of its place in Four Tet’s armoury.

Just enjoy it.

Floating Points & Four Tet play Plastic People out

Iconic London club Plastic People closed its doors last weekend, with the venue’s last public night featuring an epic performance from two DJs central to its identity in recent years. Floating Points and Four Tet played back-to-back for six hours on Friday 2nd January, and posted the typically eclectic set on SoundCloud on Monday.

Head there to read their articulate accompanying note which states, somewhat emotionally, that they are “truly humbled to have shared the music we love with people at this place, and your energy in turn has influenced the way we make music on an unfathomable scale.”

Four Tet – Parallel Jalebi (Hudson Mohawke RMX)

As part of the ongoing appetite-whetting for his forthcoming album, Hudson Mohawke has been spraying a few new tunes around:

He dropped four new fellas on Benji B’s Radio 1 show (listen here), including the above remix of Four Tet’s juddering ‘Parallel Jalebi’. As a festive treat this is now available a gratis from LuckyMe’s excellent Advent Calendar. It’s better than the cheap chocolate you got out of yours this morning.

John Beltran – Faux (Four Tet Remix)

It’s lunch, you’ve just wolfed down an overpriced chain sarnie, take a deep breath.

Feeling a little reflective over here thanks to Four Tet’s fresh remix of John Beltran’s ‘Faux’. Both remix and original have a quiet sense of melancholy to them, which isn’t entirely the downer you’d expect. There are significant echoes of Four Tet’s early work, and we can see why he’s putting this one out “soon” on his very own TEXT label.

Ultraista – Small Talk (Four Tet Rmx) – Justin Martin Rework

Couple of new ones to tide you over your Valentine’s day afternoons.

First up a remix of a remix. San Francisco’s and Dirty Bird’s Justin Martin has taken to Four Tet’s remix of Ultraista ‘Small Talk’. Justin announced on Twitter yesterday afternoon that he had a present for them, thanking them for loyal support and then it appeared, much to everyone’s relief. Check it and download for free.

Justin will be in the UK at the start of next month. Probably worth catching him if at all possible.

Then another remix from Isaac Tichauer who can do no wrong in our eyes, and has been on sublime form of late. Here we have a joint effort, working the B side of the recently released Lancelot track ‘Givin’ It Up’ with Nibc. It’s a mid-set, roller, with an old school beat and a simple piano loop. Top, top work once again. Out on Monday.

Isaac is one third of an impressive line up at The Nest in early April, joining Lane 8 and Hackman. Not one to miss.

Burial & Four Tet – Unreleased

We’ve been going a little Four Tet mad on these pages recently but, if you’ve given his new LP a spin, you’ll forgive us we’re sure.

As part of his madman eight hour Rinse FM follow-up show, he dropped an unreleased cut from his collaborative period with Burial:

It’s as atmospheric as you’d think, with a strong seam of UKG running through it. See what follows it (for the remaining seven hours and 56 minutes…) here.

Four Tet – Beautiful Rewind

In full, in all its glory.

Four Tet’s ‘Beautiful Rewind’ is now streaming in its entirety on his SC, and released for moneys on his own Text label. It’s fantastic, worth listening to start to finish, and contains a real contender for tune of the year in Parallel Jalebi.

Catch Kieran at Fabric in London this Friday, on the radio on Rinse this weekend, or at the recently announced all-dayer he’s putting on. Say no more.
