Your boy Fort Romeau is in demand! Three dreamy new remixes from the South Londoner…
First up, he intertwines his usual dose of slow-building, synth-laden mastery to German duo Adana Twins latest collaboration with Human Life, ‘Perspective’. Akin to most of FR’s work, the track really flourishes in the latter stages. Courtesy of Exploited, add it to your collection here.
Below, the excellent Permanent Vacation’s new signing Kauf has commandeered the South Londoner to inject a dose of sunshine into ‘Through The Yard’.
Last up, Australian artist Ry X’s new single, ‘Deliverance’ gets the once over ahead of its release on 6th May on Infectious Music. Lovely stuff:
Your boy Fort Romeau is on FORM.
The Human Drizzle Presents alumnus had a banging 2015. He released his ‘Insides‘ LP on Ghostly International to critical acclaim, he set up the label Cin Cin with Warm head honcho Ali Tillett, not to mention releasing a 12-inch on Running Back, crafting a string of successful remixes, appearing on Rush Hour’s excellent Music For Autobahns compilations aaaand producing this gem under his F.T.R.M alias.
It doesn’t look like he has plans to slow down either.
Today his new 12″ vinyl release ‘Secrets & Lies’ is hitting the shelves courtesy of Live At The Robert Johnson, and if this title track is anything to go by it should be at the top of everyone’s lists. Romantic house, progressive house, call it what you will. It’s compelling as ever. We’re not afraid to admit we instantly recognised the brilliant sample too.
It’s fair to say, nobody’s putting Fort Romeau in the corner this year.*
Your boy Fort Romeau and Warm head honcho Ali Tillet have gone and set up a new label called Cin Cin, aiming to provide a series of split 12″s which will feature some of their friends old and new. Sounds good to us.
First up FR himself unleashes this dreamy techno number. Stay tuned for the flip side, which is due to feature Nick Hoppner.
For more on the South London producer, a recent Dekmantel podcast featured Fort Romeau’s set at Corsica Studios from a few months back. You can stream the thing below, that’s if you’ve got a spare SIX HOURS. He played some of his favourites all night long…
Featuring remixes from Roman Flugel, Orson Welles, Massimiliano Pagliara and Tuff City Kids, Ghostly International’s sister label Spectral Sound are releasing a ‘Frankfurt Versions’ EP of a few Fort Romeau tracks from his sophomore album, ‘Insides’.
It’s quite the line-up, so get your pre-orders here. Massimiliano Pagliara and Tuff City Kids’ Disco Mix are the standouts for us, adding some urgency to FR’s deep and atmospheric sounds and prepping them for the d-floor.
Check out the rest of them here.
As if releasing a high-calibre album on the excellent Ghostly International wasn’t enough, South London’s Fort Romeau has found the time to rustle up this remix of Norwegian disco maestro Lindstrom’s recent single, ‘Home Tonight’. We’re writing this to tell you it’s good. Really good.
The original’s a mover in itself, but the producer formally known as Mike Greene has taken it one step further here. The gradual synth escalation throughout, softened by the recurring piano keys both at beginning and end, make this some of the best eight minutes you’re likely to listen to today.
More infectious sounds from Fort Romeau, on this, the third cut from his ‘Insides’ LP due out on Ghostly International next week. As ever with the South London-based producer and Human Drizzle Presents alumnus-extraordinaire, the patient will be rewarded with ‘All I Want’, the tune really coming into its own as the piano keys shine through in the second half. This joins ‘Insides’ and the fruity New Jackson collab ‘Not A Word’ on the album, which is dropping a week today on 31st March.
Can’t wait that long? The good people over at Hype Machine are streaming the whole damn thing to whet the appetite, check it out here.
Like many of FR’s thought-provoking house tunes, ‘Not A Word’ really comes into its own after the 3 and a half minute mark when the producers’ synth trickery takes centre stage and pushes the robotic vocal and pounding beat aside. It’s as dreamy a piece of work as you’d expect from these two and we love it. Not long now until Ghostly International does the good thing and releases FR’s debut LP, ‘Insides‘. 31st March, to be exact.
While we’re on it, may as well revisit New Jackson’s release from last year, ‘Having A Coke With You’. We placed it in our Best of 2014 playlist it’s so good, check out the rest of that here.
To fill the void after his set at the last Human Drizzle Presents, Fort Romeau has been working on a new LP for Ghostly. ‘Insides’ is due out at the end of March and the title track has just blasted its way onto the web:
It continues in the atmospheric house/romantic techno (delete according to wanky genre tolerance) vein but there’s a confidence about it that suggests he’s finding his place. As Mike Greene himself says, “Playing in clubs definitely had an effect on how I approach composition and pacing, I wanted to allow things to breathe and develop gradually over longer track lengths, rather than cram everything into four or five minutes.” Whatever it is he’s allowing to breathe, it’s working.
