18+ – Collect

18+ (or Eighteenpl.us for the character-generous) are a duo consisting of musicians and visual artists, Justin Swinburne and Samia Mirza. Even though Justin and Samia are based in Berlin and Honolulu respectively, they’re now on album number two in their collaborative career together.

Their debut album ‘Trust’ was released back in 2014 on Houndstooth, and the Fabric imprint are doing the business on ‘Collect’ too, their second full length to date (besides the 15-track mixtape they released earlier this year).

The album’s ‘their most ambitious and powerful work to date’, apparently. A ‘product of their physical, geographical distance and autobiographical individual growth: the fragmented meeting of displaced minds, reflecting on society’s interaction in a variety of contexts, from platonic, to professional, to economic.’

Hefty.

It’s dark, discordant and a little bit unnerving. But it’s infectious – Justin Swinburne’s vocal drawl is a particular highlight. The album’s out now.
