We consider ourselves fans of Gilles Peterson and his Worldwide series here at HD, not least because of the associated festival that takes us down to the south of France every year. It came as no surprise then to greatly enjoy this latest exclusive:
Acid Arab began life as a Facebook group and now spans compilations, EPs and parties. The first solo EP from founders Guido Minisky and Hervé Carvalho is called ‘Djazirat El Maghreb’ and celebrates North African influences, specifically Algerian on ‘Halfa (Instrumental)’. Algerian keyboard artist Kenzi Bourras features on the track too and the EP’s out late September on Versatile.
Omar Souleyman is the easy reference point but we feel there’s a more substantial low end to this one. But what does it matter what we think? You decide for once.
