HD took a trip to Islington’s Electrowerkz for a mid-week knees-up last Thursday to catch a Greco-Roman showcase.
Sadly due to our own tardiness paired with apocalyptic scenes on London’s transport networks, we missed out on the delights of Micachu & Tirzah, so first up for us was HD favourite Lxury. He stepped up and played an hour of non-stop groove, throwing on much of his own production along the way. It had been far too long since we’d listened to THIS:
George T, Greco-Roman’s new boy on the block, stepped up next to push us into the early hours. Nicknamed by the label the ‘Gentlemen of Techno’, the Edinburgh-based DJ drove up the tempo and delivered a high-energy set including his latest release ‘I’ll Do Anything’.
As the final hours drew to a close, the label really came into its own. There are few closer and more fun-loving labels than Greco-Roman and as Roosevelt serenely closed things out, the whole GR family was on the dancefloor till the end.
All in all, it was an impressive back-to-basics showcase from one of the most varied labels in the business. With forthcoming releases like Micachu & Tirzah’s wonky pop, ‘90s house jams from George T and the “free-range funk” of Bullion, GR looks set to continue unearthing the weirdest and most wonderful dance music around. We’ll be keeping an eye on them for sure.
