Human Drizzle Presents…xxxy and Fort Romeau @ Plan B, Brixton

Human Drizzle Presents is returning this December 5th, to Brixton’s Plan B – tickets available here.

We’ve taken some time out since our last party at Canavan’s. The aim was to take our Human Drizzle nights to the next level. We return now with a stellar line up at our biggest venue, and a belief that this is our boldest night yet.

The strength of a night can only really be judged by the quality of those performing, and we’re extremely proud to present to you two of the finest DJing talents currently operating on the European underground club scene; Berlin’s xxxy and London’s Fort Romeau.

Berlin-based Mancunian xxxy has built up a powerful following thanks to his signature blend of UKG and house. He has released, prolifically, on Ten Thousand Yen, Rinse, More Music, Well Rounded and Infrasonics, and his Rinse FM show has only strengthened his position as a unique and highly regarded voice on the UK underground scene.

2014 has been a consistently brilliant year for xxxy on the production front. In June, he released ‘Never Enough’ on Rinse; an up-tempo deep house banger, with a flicker of electro underneath a diva vocal sample.

That release also included ‘No More’, an emotive, oscillating house track.

Then, in August, came the ‘Goldfish’ EP on Doc Daneeka’s Ten Thousand Yen. The B-Side ‘Evade’, was more melodic yet less muscular than ‘Goldfish’, showing the flexibility in xxxy’s production.

Whichever direction xxxy’s productions take him in, his work always displays an acute appreciation for the dancefloor. 2012’s ‘Everything’ EP was no exception; three blinding party tracks, with none better than ‘Everything’.

To truly understand the scope of xxxy’s talent, though, you really have to go to the longer form. His slot on Rinse FM never disappoints, with May’s two-hour session particularly diverse.

We’re extremely excited that he’s making the trip over from Berlin for this night and we cannot wait to see him in action.

Fort Romeau’s brand of thoughtful disco and deftly crafted house has earned him a passionate fan base, with high quality releases on Live At Robert Johnson and Ghostly International. ‘The rainy day Todd Terje’ has enjoyed a relentless 2014 touring schedule, including a number of impressive festival slots, a mini-tour to the US and a couple of stints in the booth at Panorama Bar.

Long-time readers of Human Drizzle will have seen his releases mentioned on these pages frequently. His remix work is impressive enough, reworking Gold Panda and Jacques Greene to great effect in the last 18 months.

But it’s his own production work that really catches the eye. There is an understated class running through his releases, be it in in the restraint of ‘Stay True’, the old skool disco vibes of ‘I Knew’, or the smooth deep house of ‘Jetée’.

This is the tip of the iceberg in terms of what to expect from both of these guys, and we cannot stop ourselves from reiterating the pride in the Human Drizzle camp for securing them for this night.

In support, our old friends and long-time collaborators Paradise Forum will be supplying the residents of Brixton with their usual blend of funk, soul and house.

Finally, Human Drizzle’s very own Hot Karl will be running through some of the tracks of the year, for those keen to get down their nice and early.

To cap things off, we have a sensational venue hosting us. Plan B has long been one of London’s best clubs, and a look through the acts that have performed there in 2014 alone shows the regard it is held in.

This promises to be a massive night, one that we’re hugely excited about spending with you.

Earlybird tickets are on sale now – step this way to secure yours.

TĀLĀ – Everybody’s Free

This tasty rendition of Quindon Tarver’s ‘Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)’ was nestled into TĀLĀ’s mixtape she released back in May, entitled ‘Other People’s Poetry’. Today the London producer has unveiled the tune ahead of the release of her ‘Alchemy’ EP, out on the ever-so-reliable Aesop label. Comes out November 17th, pre-order your copy here.

Audion – Dem Howl Feat. Troels Abrahamsen

‘Dem Howl’ by Audion promises to be a big release for Kompakt come November 3rd.

As Audion, Mathew Dear has explored the darker side of his sound since 2004. ‘Dem Howl’ features the vocals of Danish singer Troels Abrahamsen. Whilst the vox don’t sit well with everyone, judging by the ever-insightful comments section on Soundcloud, we think they add a trembling layer of emotion over the dark swell underneath.

For those who just want to get lost in Audion’s deep fog, vocal free, then fear not; the release features an instrumental, as well as remixes from Michael Mayer and Joris Voorn.

A lot of people happy about this one.

Casino Times – Trust (Fete Remix)

London label Needwant are coming up to their 5th birthday at the end of this year. They’ve released for an impressive group of affiliated artists, that include Urulu, Mario Basanov, Ejeca and Maxxi Soundsystem.

To celebrate their birthday, Needwant are releasing a compilation of the tracks they’ve released along the way, with some new material chucked in for good measure.

One of those new tracks is ‘Trust’ by Casino Times, remixed by FETE, and it’s great.

There are also a couple of continuous mixes on the album which is always good to see, and Needwant are completing their five year festivities with two showcase nights, in London and Berlin respectively.

The album is out Monday from a variety of sources.

Aquilo – Human

Rightly hyped as one of the best newcomers of twenty fourteen, Aquilo are back with new single, ‘Human’.

The duo from the Lake District won over the entire blogosphere back in February with ‘You There’, one of our favourite down tempo pop songs of the year. Since then their ethereal sound has been gaining them fans, fast. ‘Human’ joins ‘I Gave It All’ on the ‘Human’ EP, out on B3SCI Records 8th December.

Good potential stocking filler, that.

Romare – Roots

Bit of magic from London producer Romare. ‘Roots’ is an off-kilter series of warped layers, over a 4/4 beat. The crackle of vinyl, references to Detroit and New York and old school hip hop samples give this a retro feel, but the way it’s pulled together is oddly fresh.

As unique a sound as you’re likely to hear, on these pages or anywhere. We like it.

Out on Ninja Tune December 1st.

Recondite – Levo

German producer Recondite is known for his tough yet emotionally fragile brand of techno. ‘Caldera’ was one of the big tracks of the summer, and perfectly encapsulates the style we’re talking about.

His latest release – the 55th put out by Innervisions – is something of a departure. He’s dropped the hard-hitting aspect of his recent work, and focussed on the emotion. It’s no great surprise; ‘Levo’ and ‘Garbo’ are both tracks that would fit into a DJ performance by Innervisions boss Dixon.

Out as of yesterday.

Dense & Pika – Klank EP

Industrial techno fans, please stand up.  Dense & Pika blew the scene away with the barnstorming ‘Colt’ in October of last year and they’re back with more of the rough stuff. We’ve heard four of the six tracks on the monstrous ‘Klank’ EP and they show Dense & Pika at their abrasive best.

‘Lazy Wayne’ and ‘Klank’ are two of the most chaotic bangers we’ve heard in a while, combining basslines that will knock your socks off with twitchy drum rhythms. Next to be released was ‘Slowhand’, a less raucous cut which added euphoric sounds to the pulsating undertones. The real standout, though, is ‘Wandering Hands’. It shows off D&P’s incredible versatility, bringing together fidgety clicks and melodic build-ups alongside that ever-present thunderous bass. It’s raw and uncompromising stuff, and it’s sure to be filling warehouses throughout the winter months.

Out on Scuba’s Hotflush imprint NOW, cop it here.

Jacques Greene – FACT Mix 467 (Oct ’14)

What a treat of a Monday morning.

Ahead of his performance on Friday at London’s Roundhouse (where HD will be hugging the barriers down the front), all-time HD fave Jacques Greene has pulled together a FACT mix to start your week off on the right foot. Together with some J Greene unreleased stuff, there’s also a cracking Evian ‘Trance Lord’ Christ track to watch out for.

It kicks off with a graduation speech given by Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs at Howard University, that’s all you need to know really.
