Bristol-based Just Jack (not that one) is a name you may be familiar with. For over 8 years they’ve been pushing quality house music through their club night and booking agency. As of 31st March, they’re stepping it up a gear and setting up their very own label. The launch party looks very tasty – they’re taking over Bristol’s former Old Crown Courts and Prison Cells for what they describe as a cell block riot, showcasing some of the talent they have forthcoming on the label.
Now, to their first release. Since hearing B-side ‘How I Wish’ on Shadowchild’s excellent Rinse FM show, we’ve been patiently waiting for the EP to surface online. It comes from Amsterdam’s Beesmunt Soundsystem and is excellently called ‘The Baby Maker’. It’s really rather good.
Juxtaposed nicely against the gritty drums, we’ve got a feeling we’re going to be hearing a lot more of the wonderful keys and uplifting vocal that make ‘How I Wish’ so special. It’s a big hit in the making.
A-side ‘Close To Me’ is centred around brooding synths and punchy percussion and delves into a slightly darker refrain, but it’s no less impressive. They’ve also commandeered Amir Alexander to create an even deeper ‘Body to Body Deep Dark Excursion’ of a remix. Check them out below and head over here to buy the EP.
Impressive start from Just Jack.
