Laszlo Dancehall – Whip What

Laszlo Dancehall – Brighton’s Leon Vynehall and A1 Bassline – are back with their long awaited follow up to the stomping ‘Gave Up‘.

‘Whip What’ is a similarly infectious and thumping number. It’s the ninth release on the ManMakeMusic label, and is available for purchase on vinyl today. The digital copy is out on November 11th.

Blonde – It’s You (The Golden Boy Remix)

Dominic Hammonds aka The Golden Boy has very kindly unleashed yet another free download for your listening pleasure.

He’s taken Blonde’s summer jam ‘It’s You’ and given it a jackin’ makeover. Testament to the original’s class vocal (another free download), this is a catchy number and whets the appetite for more material from the duo from Bristol, London and Leeds, according to their soundcloud. One half being from the Eton Messy lot and one half from Thieves, we’re keen to hear more.

The Golden Boy’s been getting some good shows in throughout the UK of late, with Nottingham’s Stealth and Ministry Of Sound to come. Be sure to check the diary if you’re after a night out.

John Talabot – Without You

Our second most anticipated night on this horizon (after YOU KNOW WHAT) is this Hivern Discs showcase at Corsica that’s doubling up as the launch party for Spanish wizard John Talabot’s DJ Kicks compilation. He’s joined by longtime collaborator Pional and HD fave Fort Romeau, amongst others.

To whet our collective appetites even more, he’s lobbed out an exclusive track from the mix, put together whilst on the road. It’s meandering in the best possible way:

23rd November, put it in your diary.

Panama – Always (Classixx Remix)

Them two lads that make up LA duo Classixx have got a natural talent for injecting a whole load of fun into music. You need go no further than May’s debut album ‘Hanging Gardens’ to appreciate they know their way around a decent pop tune. Delve a little deeper and you’ve got a string of ace remixes you can find on their Soundcloud page, and joining them is this latest offering.

They’ve tweaked the catchy ‘Always’ by Sydney’s Panama, and turned it into a brilliant feel-good bop. The original’s being released on the excellent Future Classic label. If you want in, head over here and name your price for the EP (literally, you choose how much).

Sigur Rós – Rafstraumur (Cyril Hahn Remix)

Everyone’s favourite Swiss, Cyril Hahn, continues his excellent run of form by tackling a remix of Icelandic atmosphere merchants, Sigur Rós.

‘Rafstraumur’, or ‘Electric’ if Google’s Icelandic translation tool is accurate, has all the hallmarks one would expect from a Hahn release. Urgent with a great beat, accessible without being too poppy, and that tinge of sadness that seems to run through all of his tracks. Certainly, it should stoke the already raging inferno that is his fan base.

Cyril and his pal Ryan Hemsworth are continuing their joint quest for global domination, with the US currently receiving the treatment. Fear not though; if you somehow managed to miss Mr Hahn this summer, he has a veritable plethora of UK dates between now and Crimbo.

Mali Michael – Wild Things (Visionist Remix)

Something spooky for you this morning*.

It’s grime, but not as we know it. Tapping into the energy and momentum generated by the recent producer wars (well worth following here and here), Visionist has reworked singer-songwriter Mali Michael’s ‘Wild Things’. It’s haunting stuff but with just enough in the melody line to keep the goosebumps away.

*Spooky you say? That reminds us… we’re having a Halloween party! Tickets here: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?528543

THE LINE-UP…

As regular readers of HD will know, we’ve been big fans of Mighty Mouse since day one. Over the past few years he’s carved out an excellent reputation for penning feel-good disco house tunes, and we cannot wait to have him headline proceedings on 1st November. Here’s a taster:

Besides his original work, he’s started a compilation series entitled ‘Disco Circus’, has released a string of consistently good mixtapes and been responsible for countless remixes. More recently however, he has formed Du Tonc with Matt Van Schie from Van She. They’ve released one mixtape and written four excellent original tracks, all released on their own label Night Film. ‘Darkness’ could quite possibly be our pop tune of the year. We are stoked to have him playing.

Next up we have Human Drizzle Presents alumnus Clancy. Having totally smashed it at the Bussey Building for our party back in April, we thought we’d get the budding London via Manchester producer back for another slot. He’s released a long list of free-to-download tunes before being recruited by Dirt Crew Recordings to put out his debut EP on their new imprint S P I E L. He’s going from strength to strength.

We also welcome Black Magic Disco all the way from Australia. Having had releases on Toolroom Records and Pole Position Records, he makes 90s garage and house-infused tracks which should be perfect for Peckham’s former department store. He’s known to compile quite the mixtape too, have a listen:

Warming up proceedings from 10pm will be the enigmatic newcomer, Hot Karl.

There’s a whole load of fun to be had. Bag your ticket now and come join us.

Friday 1st November, 10pm – 5am, Peckham Palais.

Jagwar Ma – Come Save Me (The Pachanga Boys’ Jagwar Pawar Remix)

What we love about the Pachanga Boys is you know you’re always going to get your money’s worth.

After producing the masterpiece that was ‘Time’*, that clocked in at over a quarter of an hour, this 12 and a half minutes don’t seem so bad. In fact, there’s nothing bad at all about this slow burner. They’ve remixed Jagwar Ma’s ‘Come Save Me’, and it’s a brilliant and completely hypnotic tune. We understand if you can’t, but we really recommend plugging into this one.

On the flip side, Andrew Weatherall’s effort.

Quadron – Hey Love (Ryan Hemsworth Remix)

To keep you/us going whilst we patiently wait for Ryan Hemsworth’s ‘Guilt Trips’ LP (October 22nd, Last Gang Records), he’s spat out a remix of Quadron’s ‘Hey Love’. The original’s a funky little number (with a video for all you Strictly Come Dancing fans out there) and Ryan’s stripped it back, focusing in on the vocals and a throbbing bass:

If you’re still fidgety for more, here’s a taster from the album. A more straight up-and-down Hemsworth cut featuring Metro Zu’s Lofty 305:

Jonas Rathsman – Feel What I Feel

Look sharp, Swedish house master Jonas Rathsman is back with a brand new beat. He’s returned to the superlative French Express to release ‘Feel What I Feel’. Akin to previous material, Rathsman’s crafted a soulful tune with his trademark RnB vocal intact. It comes out on October 29th, a day before French Express take over the LA branch of Boiler Room – one to put in the diary.
