Bobby Brown – Two Can Play That Game (Ben Gomori’s 4Play Re-Edit)

Guess what? HD favourite Ben Gomori has only gone and followed up his amusingly-titled recent Justin Timberlake remix with a rework of Bobby Brown’s classic 90s anthem, ‘Two Can Play That Game’. Yeah, we know!

He strings out the opening and keeps you waiting for what is one of the more iconic piano riffs of the last century (or any century for that matter) but it’s worth the wait. The drop at 02:22 is really splendid, and the rest of the track is very nice dancefloor fodder.

For more Ben, listen to his podcast Turned On, and/or (preferably and) his new Chapel Club remix:

Oh, and stay tuned for some exciting Gomori-themed news from us…

Daughter – Get Lucky (Daft Punk Cover)

When you’ve been up all night to get some, had some fun and got lucky, you might want to plug in this down tempo cover of Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ by Daughter. The UK band covered it for Huw Stephens’ Radio 1 show ahead of their debut album release. It’s called ‘If You Leave’ and is out on Glassnote Records today! Here’s our favourite from it, a sad little number entitled ‘Youth’.

Shit Robot – Feels Real

Now you’ll have to trust us but, after a couple of listens, Luke Jenner from The Rapture’s comically-high vocals actually sound very infectious on this new single from Shit Robot. The track’s out on DFA Records now. Have a gander at the vid below, you won’t be able to take your eyes off it.

Deetron – Out Of My Head (George FitzGerald & KiNK Remix)

Both George FitzGerald and KiNK have been commandeered to give a helping hand on Deetron’s new single ‘Out Of My Head’. Testament to how good the original is, the catchy vocal remains intact on both, but it’s the pulsating drive on FitzGerald’s remix that really shines for us. The man’s in fine form. All out today on Music Man Records.

NICOLAS JAAR BOILER ROOM NYC

Last month Boiler Room finally managed to woo Nicolas Jaar into their NYC HQ, albeit with a little helping hand from the Red Bull Music Academy. The audio visuals have finally been let loose online. Intricate as you’d expect, there’s a lot going on in this one.

Remind yourselves of the classic BBC Essential mix he did last year too. He sure got skills.

Benedict Jackson – Not Your House/Audax

We know little about Real Nice Recordings save the fact they’re a newly formed, London-based label. The two Real Nice DJs have been spinning records and holding some fairly sizeable parties both in Bristol and West London for a while now, so a foray into releasing records seems like the next logical step.

Their debut release is from fellow Londoner Benedict Jackson and it’s a party starter. The two originals breathe deep and soulful house and both the Real Nice DJs and Cubiq step up on the remixing front, grab the EP here. Great to see such fresh talent on a similarly fresh label, promising stuff.

Vanilla Ace – Bring It Back

Comically-named Londoner Vanilla Ace is one of our favourite producers right now. Having got our attention with the bouncy disco of ‘Vanilla Sky’ and the slow-burning deep house masterpiece ‘Hide’ last year, he’s back with ‘Musicology’, a new EP on OFF Recordings.

‘Bring it Back’ is the pick of the two tracks on ‘Musicology’. Like the best work of David August and his pals at Diynamic Music, this one is in no hurry: taking its time and building slowly into a really intoxicating piece of house music. Perfect for a Friday. While you’re here, why not enjoy ‘Vanilla Sky’ too? It’s been a long week and, you know what, you’ve earnt it. Well done you.

Classixx – All You’re Waiting For

LA duo Classixx keep the relentlessly feel-good tunes coming with their new single ‘All You’re Waiting For’. Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem and The Juan Maclean fame provides the vocal on this catchy number, probably the last before their debut album ‘Hanging Gardens’ drops on May 14th on Innovative Leisure. It’s gonna be a must-have this summer. They’re also the latest instalment in the fixtape series Solé Bicycles curates. Besides the clever use of ‘werging’ going on, they do tend to get some excellent talent to partake; check out Goldroom’s addition for example. They’re also free to download so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t treat yourself.

Talking of treats, Master Bashmore’s outstanding edit of Classixx’s 2011 hit ‘Into The Valley’ is worth a (re)visit:

Bonobo – The North Borders

It’s nice to see someone with a bit of experience behind them on these pages, a refreshing break from all these young whippersnappers (don’t see that word written very much). Bonobo‘s first release was in 1999 and he’s still got it, oh yes. ‘The North Borders’ LP is his latest take on British electronica and the first single, ‘First Fires’ has a lush new video for your enjoyment:

And here’s a couple more from the album to prolong the high:

Full disclosure – HD have a vested interest in bigging Bonobo up as he’s headlining Beacons Festival in sunny Skipton, a stop on our festival tour this summer. We need him full of confidence and at the top of his game – you can do it Simon!

Young Adults – House Slippers Compilation

The head honchos at Munich-based label Permanent Vacation have crafted (no pun intended) this hypnotic remix of Suzanne Kraft‘s ‘Maybe Snakes’. It sits nicely on LA imprint Young Adults‘ excellently-named first compilation tape ‘House Slippers’ and supposedly “soundtracks the progression from dusk till dawn, complete with warm up burners, peak time jammers and comedown chuggers”. You can preview and purchase the whole thing here if that sounds up your street. Or alternatively, if you’re after a quick fix of them peak time jammers, check out Mark E‘s driving new one called ‘Fake Bitches’.
