A chance encounter on a Human Drizzle iPod (unofficial branding) led to this and a welcome refocusing on the work of Nottingham-born, London-housed DJ/producer, Brackles. Anyone who’s caught him at legendary grime and dubstep night FWD – the Skrillex-free spiritual home of ‘proper’ dubstep – will know that he puts on quite the show, effortlessly blending the sharper edges of UK grime and garage percussion with some dancefloor synths.
Now he’s blessing us with his debut LP as the latest curator of the Rinse series. Rinse Presents…Brackles is out on 7th May and should be the first thing you part with money for next week. The opening track, ‘Never Coming Down’ (complete with impeccable garage vocals from Lily McKenzie) showcases his skills perfectly, chopping up some UKG for a shuffling club tune.
As you’d expect, he’s launching it at FWD – on 10th May, backed up by Oneman and others. Start next weekend early.
