Switch, aka Dave Taylor, has turned his hand to many different genres since he burst to prominence with Wild West-themed house überbanger, ‘A Bit Patchy’, in 2006. He has produced records for MIA, Beyoncé and Christina Aguilera – and of course teamed up with Diplo to form the mighty Major Lazer (themselves creators of one of the biggest dancefloor tunes of the past couple of years).
It is to his credit, then, that his new single (and his first solo single since A Bit Patchy) sounds so different to the majority of the above. Major Lazer’s dancehall and reggaeton influences can be detected in the insistent, shuffling beat – but the mood of ‘I Still Love You’ is completely different. The vocal from Andrea Martin (who co-wrote En Vogue’s ‘Don’t Let Go’, amazingly) is stunning. Haunting, stark and full of soulful yearning, it gets in your head and won’t leave.
It’s released tomorrow and if it isn’t massive, Human Drizzle will eat its hat.
